2/3 of wildlife estimated to be wiped out by 2020

As the title says, recent studies suggest that in 3 years time, with our current trend, 2/3 of all wildlife dating back from the 1970's may get killed off. To clarify, the study is referring to the total population size of all wildlife, not simply the extinction of certain species. The overall impact of such a development is still debated and some, as in very few, scientists hold reservation to the severity; but overall there is a majority consensus that this is a critically dire situation we find ourselves in.

Note that these studies were compiled by non-profit organizations from multiple countries.

Probably in the trillions. I don't think they gave an actual raw number of the totality of all species. They break down each group to their habitat and the percentages vary. So fish would have lost more than say landmass population.

Nothing really, but it does happen again the likelihood of it being caused by humans would be decreased severely. Things like global climate change, ecosystem imbalances, and deforestation can be attributed to the meat industry and hunting. 18% of CO2 emissions comes from livestock on farms, which is far more CO2 released in the atmosphere compared to travel emissions caused by cars, trains, buses, planes, and boats across the planet combined, and our interference with ecosystems either by introducing foreign species to different ecosystems or killing off a species in ecosystems have lead to overpopulation and extinction. Global veganism would eliminate a significant percentage of CO2 from our atmosphere and severely cut down the necessary amount of land needed to produce food, meaning less expansion and deforestation. An end to hunting would eventually lead ecosystems to self regulate and achieve equilibrium, but I'd imagine there's already a significant amount of damage done to certain ecosystems that would lead to natural extinctions of some species of animals regardless of whether or not hunting is a thing.

And it's possible that we'll eventually become overpopulated and expand to a point where it causes the death of a significant amount of wildlife, or have wildlife dying by the effects of fossil fuel emissions (assuming we dont switch over to natural energy), but it's undeniable that global veganism would have pushed the date of wildlife extinction farther back than previously expected. I see it the same way as the way natural energy will push back the date on when we run out of certain resources.
