Alright cast an illusion on my clone that is running at you.
He will believe that he is traveling in a neverending straight line however in reality he'll be walking around in circles.

*Removes the many layers of dust formed on this thread, using a trusty duster Shinta bought from the corner store.*

So I believe Coyote was in the process of teaching you the following:

( Kori Shinchū no Jutsu ) - Sly Mind Affect Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion on the opponent that makes them believe they are travelling in a straight line, when instead they are moving in circles. This is only effective on moving opponents. If the opponent travels in the circle for hours, they will be exhausted.

Instead of performing the jutsu, I'll just ask questions about it and also add my own two cents to either the jutsu or your reply.

As the jutsu states, if your target isn't moving, this illusion wont have any effect on them. Usually used to keep your target busy so you can set up a finishing attack, or even slow them down so you can escape.

So genjutsu usually falls into one of a few categories, mainly based on the primary goal of the jutsu. What type of genjutsu do you think this falls under and, using that information, what tells would you be able to use to break this genjutsu?

Sorry it's been a while, but what are the categories genjutsus fall into? I can rule out that this doesn't fall under paralysis, but I'm not aware of the names of the other few to place it under one. I suppose one could use Kai to break this or a decent body surge technique. They could even break a finger but that would be a bit too extreme. Are sharingan users (1T, 2T & 3T) able to break genjutsus in a different way after they realise they're under one?

I thought that would be the case but I still didn't want to give you the answer directly xD For the cannon jutsu list, you'll only find paralysis and visual based genjutsu. Doujutsu based genjutsu and elemental genjutsu tend to start blurring the lines or more directly affecting specific senses.
So for this jutsu, you'd call it a visual genjutsu as it only effects what your target sees, so long as the activation condition is met (the condition being that they are moving).

While you are correct as to how you'd break the genjutsu, you first have to logically deduce that you are in a genjutsu. There are two ways to do this: using information gained through your senses (sight, touch, sound, taste, smell) and even common sense, to reason you are under an illusion. With Canon genjutsu, this is slightly easier to work out In-Character as they will mostly have an easy 'tell'. For this genjutsu, you'd use common sense and notice you aren't actually getting any closer to your target or a specific landmark.

Sharingan users have an advantage when coming up against a genjutsu. They can use the above method to logically deduce genjutsu to use as a reason to check their chakra flow. Under a genjutsu, a persons chakra flow is distorted and irregular, thus it would be confirmation of being under a genjutsu. Then you could release the genjutsu via any release method you'd like.
The Sharingan also allows you to, once deduced (which is very easy for a sharingan, as the eyes can pick up on all the visual inconsistencies with the visual illusion) passively break out of certain ranked visual genjutsu. Passively meaning you won't have to spend a jutsu slot to break the illusion.
1T sharingan can see through and break d-rank genjutsu, 2T can see through and break C-rank genjutsu and 3T can break b-rank genjutsu. I'll again stress, this only applies to visual genjutsu. MS Sharingan allows you to break A-rank and EMS allows you to break S-rank genjutsu.

You might also consider reading through as it details quite a bit about Genjutsu in our RP.

( Genjutsu: Jinmon ) - Illusion Technique: Interrogation
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:30
Description: The user of this technique, upon casting on a stationary opponent with physical contact with them, is able to convince the enemy to give away information. However, this will only work on ninja two ranks lower and below than the caster.

I recall seeing this in the anime, but can't recall specifics as to who used it and why... I think one of the Konoha ANBU using it to gather information from a target about... Orochimaru/Pein? I'm leaning more towards part II, just before the invasion of Pein.

Anyway, in our RP it's really more of a cosmetic thing... We shall move on.

( Genjutsu: Jigoku Gouka ) - Illusion Technique: Hell Fire
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points:N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion where the opponent sees a huge ball of fire descending from the sky and enveloping its target.

A purely visual genjutsu, but very large and definitely something that would draw your targets attention. Simple task for you: how would you use this genjutsu in a battle scenario and how might you be able to make it appear 'more real'? (Hint: maybe you would combo this with another jutsu, used by an ally so it's in the same time frame).

Just before using this technique you could have a clone aim either of these techniques towards the sky:

Katon: Gōenkyū) - Fire Release: Great Blaze Ball
Type: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: The user after performing two hand seals Horse → Tiger exhales a big-sized sphere of fire that carries the enemy away and causes a massive explosion on impact. The fire ball has a given solidity property to it, being able to punch through solid obstacles without exploding.

aton: Gōryūka no Jutsu) - Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique
Type: Offense/Supplementary
Rank: B
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: The user fires several large dragon-shaped fireballs at their opponent after performing one handseal. It is able to alter localized weather conditions to the point of making thunder clouds when shot into the air, enabling the user to perform Kirin

Katon: Gōkakyū Hitoame no Jutsu)Fire Release: Great Fireball Shower
Type: Offensive
Rank: S
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 70
Damage: 100
Description:
Kneading his chakra and then converting it to fire, the user will do the Horse → Tiger → Snake → Ram hand seals as he inhales, exhaling into the sky a multitude of great fireballs (up to 8) at the same time which then rain down on the target from above causing severe, widespread damage around the field. These fireballs have explosive and concussive abilities, similar to other fire techniques.
Note: Can only be used by Fire Primary Specialists.
Note: Can only be used twice.

For the 1st technique, sure you can fire it towards the sky, but going by the description I'm not convinced you can guide it back down onto the target. Is this assumption correct?

The 2nd technique would be excellent if you can pull it off, but it's a bit risky since the opponent can deduce what went up (the fire dragons) doesn't look like what came back down (a huge fireball). This gives them reason to suspect it's a genjutsu thus breaking out of it.

The 3rd is even more riskier than the 2nd, reason being you're sending several huge fireballs upwards and in the gen only one comes back down. And in the description it doesn't saying anything about making them believe that the multitude of fireballs were conjoined together before coming back down.

Apart from these three I can't seem to find a suitable technique to use before placing them under the jutsu. Or, is the idea to place them under the gen then use these fireball techs?

And what if you were to, say, perform fake handseals and them place them under this genjutsu? Would it be easy for the opponent to suspect that it's a genjutsu because nearly every fire technique is released from the mouth/some part of the body?

And one last question: I see there are quite a lot of overpowered gen techs. In a battle, sometimes, wouldn't it be too late to break out of a gen by means of deduction? Like if you were to figure that you're in a genjutsu by analysing the terrain/using your other senses, by the time you use Kai to break out of it, wouldn't it be too late 'cause you'd be hit by another tech that was spawned close range to you. In those cases should you do a bit of God-modding/metagaming?

Sorry, didn't mean to leave you this long xD

That first fire jutsu, once it's released, you have no control over it's direction.

Using a fire tech to cover this is more for misdirection, if you even feel like doing that. You can make it appear that you've sent this fire jutsu into the sky and cast the genjutsu to cover up you forming clouds for Kirin (ie. Using that second fire jutsu, then using the genjutsu to cover up the clouds forming).
I caution against performing fake seals, as by their very nature, seals are meant to focus your chakra in a certain way: forming a seal that might correlate more to water jutsu, then using a Genjutsu would strain your chakra and could stop the genjutsu happening. You are correct though as you could rationalise that fire jutsu generally don't fall from the sky, using that as a basis to try a Genjutsu release method.

Timeframe in that case does help you out to some extent. In stressful situations, people can sometimes think faster as their mind starts to pay attention to more detail, giving you the effect of time slowing down. It's not far-fetched to believe one could run through some simple checks if they notice something out of the ordinary (as a trained ninja, you might realise your opponent did something off their normal rhythm or the way the suspected genjutsu formed doesn't quite click with actual physical jutsu).
In the time-frame, you would be put under the genjutsu; ration why you need to perform a release; opponent launches new jutsu; you have enough time to pull of a no-handseal counter/defence.

You've asked quite a lot and it kinda strained my knowledge a bit, but it's good you're asking questions like these xD

Any of that make sense/answer your questions?

( Genjutsu: Kasumi no Jutsu ) - Illusion Technique: Mist Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user creates an illusionary clone that charges towards the enemy, jumps, then explodes in a cloud of cherry blossom petals which results in confusing the opponent and obscuring their vision, leaving them open for attack.

The aim of this jutsu is to fool your target into thinking you've created a clone, that you've sent to run directly at them. However there is no hand seal for this jutsu, which might be your first clue that this is a genjutsu. The second might be when the clone explodes into a cloud of cherry blossoms xD
This has no damage and isn't critical if not released, however if used to support a clone or ally, it will leave the target open to the attack from the casters ally.

( Kasunda Genjutsu ) - Illusionary Arts: Hazy Illusion
Type: Supplementary/Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage: N/A
Description: This is a simple and not to difficult to discern genjutsu. The user places the target in an illusion where they see the world around them heavily distorted, preventing the target from discerning his surroundings while within the illusion. The technique also gives the impression of the target sinking in quicksand and thus acts as a means to immobilize them slowly.

This is a visual and paralysis genjutsu, though only preventing movement of the targets legs. Easy to discern due to the heavy visual distortions that your target will see/experience. It would be like heat waves from a hot road, distorting the view of the terrain behind them.
Again, no damage but it allows the caster a chance to escape/hide or used in a support role to further an allies attack.

For the first technique, a good time to use it would be when your opponent's vision of you is obstructed by a cloud of smoke/mist. You could place them under this genjutsu to make them see/believe a clone emerging from the cloud of smoke/mist.

As for the second technique, there's really no way to make it look more believeable simply because of the nature of the technique. A good time to use it would be when there is a pool of water beneath the opponent. Since the gen makes them think they're sinking in quicksand they might feel inclined to use Nagashi or another lightning tech - but in reality they're standing in a pool of water.

So, all i want you to do is perform each jutsu. Make sure it's detailed so i know you understand, rather than simply restating the description. Your targets are the Six Paths of Pain. I'll try to answer any questions you have if you're unsure of something.

Welcome, pupil. Your genjutsu training resumes with an introduction to genjutsu layering, the overlap of one genjutsu with another. Basically, two genjutsu that do not conflict with each other may be layered in order to merge their effects or stack them. The most important rule to remember is that when layering genjutsu, the second genjutsu must be of equal rank or lower than that of the first one, else the lower ranked genjutsu will be overpowered and broken.
To release yourself from layered genjutsu you could release each one individually or both at the same time if the release method is strong enough to break the highest ranked genjutsu involved.

You're learning this now so you can fully understand the next technique that follow the same concept. Take this, it's description is very detailed already. Use it on me.

(Magen: Nijū Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique
Type: Supplmentary
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description:
The user will do a sequence of 3 handseals, putting his opponents under a double layered Genjutsu. The user is able to create false surroundings to fool his targets, much like the simpler version of the technique. However, the illusion is in fact layered. If the opponent manages to release the first one, he will then feel the effects of the second illusion. If, for example, the first illusion is that of a desert and the second that of a forest, upon releasing the first one, the opponent will see the desert fade away while the forest appears around him, making him think he dispelled the illusion while in essence he is still caught in one. Each illusion is equivalent to C-Rank and both are casted at the same time. While normal releases will release only one illusion at a time, a strong enough pain or an external source of chakra can dispel both at the same time.

Chrollo catches the scroll mid air and reads through the details. After comprehension he begins channelling his chakra into Pein's brain, more specifically the areas concerned with vision. Using his chakra Chrollo manipulates how Pein interprets reality. Everything in his line of sight becomes heavily distorted - objects and colours merging with each other to create a one big, indiscernible mess. Having done this, he adds another layer that would only kick into effect when Pein breaks out of the first. In this next layer, the indiscernible mess clears into the terrain as he remembered but in ruins. Thin streams of lava would be running through the cracked, dry earth in what would seem like a maze and the trees would be lifeless - having depleted of their natural colour and shine.

That's not exactly what i wanted but it seems like you get it.

Nicely done. If you're a sword user you'll appreciate the next technique. Simply wave your sword back and forth with the blade pointed down to cast an illusion on the enemy seeing it. The illusion should create multiple images of your arm waving in mid-air which resemble the branches of a willow tree blowing in the wind. This confuses your enemy your so can cut him down. Here's a volunteer.

Description: The user waves their sword back and forth, which when seen by the target locks them in a genjutsu which causes them to hallucinate multiple waving arms. The movement resembles that of a willow tree blowing in the wind. With the enemy off guard, the user is free to cut them down.

Now perform the Dog, Hare, Snake, and Ram handseals to cast an illusion on your target. In the illusion you disappear like mist while several bean vines grow out of the ground beneath your enemy. These vines bind him and lift him into the air before a bean pod rises from the ground and you appear from it poised to strike. The enemy is immobilized in reality so you're free to attack. Show him why kids don't eat their vegetables.

In reality, the opponent is immobilized by the illusion, allowing the user to strike.

For this technique you will cast an illusion on your enemy where they appear to be standing on a large flower bud that closes around them and explodes. The enemy would believe they were actually hurt by the explosion and in reality collapse due to the metal stress. Make him pay for his crimes.

( Konoha-Ryū: Yanagi ) - Leaf Ninja Art: Willow
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 35

Pleased at the next set of jutsus, Chrollo summoned forth a Katana and approached the allocated Pein. For the first technique, he channeled chakra into both the katana and the enemy's chakra network. He held the sword to his left then slowly moved it the right in an arch. As he performed this simple maneuver he planted an image in Peins' mind to make him see 3 images of Chrollo's arm, one lagging behind the other.

The next jutsu was a paralysis genjutsu and so once again Lucilfer disrupted Peins' CN. In accordance with what his teacher described, he casted an illusion on pein whereby here he saw vines shoot up at him from under just after Chrollo miraculously disappeared. These vines constrained and suspended him in the air as Chrollo reappeared in a bean and attacked. Of course this was only a genjutsu - in reality he was paralysed and his eyes were wide in fear as he saw a false scene play out.

For the final jutsu Chrollo once again took control of the targets CN. This time he were to make the Pein believe that a large flower spawned underneath him and enclosed itself around him. And so he did that. Once the flower entrapped him, at the signal of Chrollo, it exploded. And like before, this wasn't reality. When the genjutsu ended Pein was reduced to his knees, sweating and panting.

Superb. The next genjutsu is similar to String Bean Binding Illusion so it should sound familiar. After forming five handseals cast an illusion on your target in which your body appears to dissolve into mist. A tree will then rapidly grow behind the enemy and bind him to it with wooden tendrils. You would appear to emerge from the tree poised to attack the immobilized enemy. Keep in mind the range of this technique, it's shorter compared to the one you learned earlier. Punish him.

( Magen: Jubaku Satsu ) - Demonic Illusion: Tree Binding Death
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, and appears to dissolve into a mist. Once they stealthily approach the target and get within short-range, the opponent feels completely immobilized, and believes they have been bound by a fast-growing tree and are unable to move. The user then appears as if they emerge from the tree to attack the target. In reality, the target is immobilized, allowing the user to strike or interrogate them.

Now we move on to a simple illusion. Just cast an illusion on your target where snakes appear beneath your enemy and constrict them, thus immobilizing them in reality. On command you may have the snakes crush the enemy's body to inflict mental stress. If you happen to be a snake user, your enemy would have a harder time doubting the illusion. Give it a shot.

Damage points: 40
Description: The user puts the opponent into a genjutsu which has snakes appear beneath the opponent to constrict them and with the users command, they crush the opponent. In reality, the opponent is immobilized and takes damage due to the stress on his mind.

Another simple illusion: Here you will make your enemy see purple flowers appear from the ground in front of you. They damage your enemy and paralyze them temporarily if he's near. (yeah its vague but seeing it myself didn't help) Watch out.
