I mean don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of Itachi (Despite my dislike of how he betrayed his own family for a corrupt nation), but I have to admit.

Itachi is a walking asspull.

Totsuka Blade, Yata, and Izanami just came out of nowhere with no foreshadowing whatsoever. It just appeared then faded. There was no warning of the things he pulled from his ass. He even knew about the Ryuchi Cave. I mean give me a fu*king break. Where did he get this info, the FBI?

He just farts and it becomes reality.

Is Izanami a Genjutsu based on eye contact or does it only work through physical memory?

Apparently, it's supposed to work be a Genjutsu that also works on your senses and traps you in a loop until you give up.

Dude, I bet if you look up asspull right now, Izanami would pop up.

that whole kabuto fight was just pretty shit, its main purpose was to see the itachi+sasuke brotherhood stuff

There's different types of sensory-abilities I think, or at least what they claim is a sensor in the Manga. In terms of Dojutsu/Actual sensing abilities/other tracking capabilities.

If you're talking about Naruto/Karin's way of sensing, I think it holds true based on examples. In the first scan, Izanami isn't really your normal Genjutsu.

True but I think if kabuto could actually sense genjutsu or chakra build up in the eye whatever people claim. he'd still be aware of izanami activation (before it hit him)

I think it goes borderline what he can or cannot do. For example, if Izanami and other types of Genjutsu which can be released outside of 'physical eye contact' are used, then most likely the person does need to prepare for it. However, if we put Sound Genjutsu in the mix since like Izanami, it targets other senses other than eye contact, then most likely you would not be able to counter. Unless you had prep for it.

Though we do have to state that Kabuto didn't know what Izanami is, even if Itachi was releasing his chakra for it, knowing that doesn't equal him understanding what is going on completely.

Apparently, it's supposed to work be a Genjutsu that also works on your senses and traps you in a loop until you give up.

Then logically it would make sense why sensors who can close their eyes, would fall to Izanami because in the same sense, you can't counter sound genjutsu because it deals with your other senses too.

Regardless the ability is straight up plot for convenient sake :lol

No the point of sensory is aware you that genjutsu is coming is it not? If it do there's no reason to close one's eyes unless i'm forgetting something. and this isn't a statement it's a question.

Sensory is not so acute that they can sense what Jutsu is going to be used. Just that chakra is being focused somewhere in the body and a Jutsu is coming.

If chakra is being supplied to an Uchiha's eye then it's a safe bet that a genjutsu is coming. But that's about the extent of it.

No you are wrong here OP. chakra build up for genjutsu can be sensed. It's proof is in the manga. Nagato sensed it during itachi/nagato vs naruto/bee fight. He just thought it was amaterasu. But it was genjutsu. That proves he sensed genjutsu. Kabuto was over cautious, since he considered itachi too be very capable ninja which he was obviously. But kabuto both overestimated and underestimated him. He just took extra precaution, and that's who kabuto is. Kabuto is always cautious throughout the manga. But he didn't consider the possibility of a genjutsu that wouldn't need eye contact, and that was his undoing. Since he didn't consider this possibility, he wouldn't know what the chakra build up for said jutsu was. Just like nagato didn't know if it was amaterasu or genjutsu. Though it's unclear whether izanami even requires chakra since it takes an eye. Same is the case with izanagi. I doubt they even use chakra.

Ok Itachi is master sharingan genjutsu user and the other is a sensory ninja. What should the sensor do? Fight Itachi and look him directly in the eye while not relying on his sensory powers to avoid getting caught in Itachi's genjutsu?

The way some people think, it's like Itachi doesn't follow NV physics...

Every Jutsu requires molding of chakra one way or another, and that build-up can be sensed by any good sensory type. And MS Jutsu are kind of very noticeable, even non sensory types feel the stuff going on.

If sensory is such an effective counter, why did kabuto need to close his eyes?

Manga makes it seem sensory is useless to signal them of genjutsu

Sensory is counter for Amaterasu not genjutsu.Sensory cant save you from being caught in genjutsu, but sensor can tell if another person is under genjutsu (sensor can sense your chakra flow) which is proven with Karin case.

Imagine situation where Itachi puts Minato in genjutsu . Original Minato is is inside genjutsu and of course he doesn´t knows it so Itachi attacks him with fire shuriken (like against Bee ) or anything. Now Minato clones can sense that original one is under genjutsu so they can simply FTG away original Minato to avoid any damage. Clones can not be put in genjutsu as confirmed so Itachi genjutsu is pretty much useless thank to following :

- clones which cant be put in genjutsu

- sensory ability each clone would have to tell if original is inside genjutsu

- FTG to instantly teleport away original if he is put under genjutsu.

Minato > Itachi

Yea only for sensors with short range. The only other way itachi's genjutsu could catch a sensor is if they were distracted like what sasuke did to to C in his battle with the forth. Other than that sensory is your best friend against guys like itachi.

The jutsu was made to stop Uchiha who spammed Izanagi, naturally one of the prerequisites for such a jutsu to succeed would be for the individual to never see it coming OBVIOUSLY.

That wasn't done for Itachi, though, but for a regular Sharingan. Furthermore, Kabuto's SM works like a snake's that work more with the auditory, tactile and an olfactory sense anyway, so, sight isn't (most snakes) weapon for finding prey. Kabuto's DSM works in a very similar fashion, where he only needs to sense vibrations and sounds to get the job done. It's the most advanced SM in the manga bar the obvious handout.

Not exactly. 1 if his sensory focused on sasuke still, Cee would've had the time to break it not avoid it. To counter genjutsu you have to avoid it, the luxury of getting caught in it and to be skilled enough to break it before getting killed is very unlikely. in Cee's case, he was already subdued by it's power. samething happened with orochimaru but itachi sliced his hand off. 2. Distractions works in itachi's favor. if he was able to fool a sensor with crows just enough time to grab sasuke's sword and cut his horn then he would've had more than enough time to catch him in genjutsu if kabuto's eyes were open.

sense chakra knead =/= sense when it's used.

- if you're talking about amaterasu, assuming juubito sensed instead of "see" the chakra form into sasuke's eye, that doesn't apply to genjutsu since you'd still not know when it's coming unlike amaterasu. and like you said, non sensors could feel the technique being formed but all of those moments was about amaterasu likely because out of all the dojutsu techniques with exception to susanoo, the flames itself is nothing but chakra, powerful chakra at that.

That doesn't make sense, Itachi didn't use genjutsu either when nagato "sensed"

Yes izanami use chakra, karin noted a dip in danzo's chakra each time he used izanagi.

How does this statement even make sense?

Sensory gives you the ability to not rely on vision. The point is to close your eyes!

I think OP is talking about how people thinking sensory alone can directly counter genjutsu not how sensory helps the user avoid getting caught into genjutsu. i.e. Kabuto using his senses to avoid any genjutsu after he closes his eyes, op implies that if Kabuto didn't close his eyes Itachi's genjutsu would've gotten him (assuming Itachi got eye contact) even though Kabuto has advanced sensory ability which some claim is enough to directly beat Itachi's genjutsu (according to op). my 0.02.
it's like kishimoto was foreshadowing sasuke's potential

or Obito's :bdpf:

@bold, lol i forgot about that. Thanks for clearing up.
And about nagato sensing, genjutsu was used i.e KA then. And it was probably used using itachi's chakra. Since the crow was from itachi and a sharingan can't do anything on it's own without chakra. Since nagato didn't know about crow sharingan, he must have sensed itachi's chakra. And that also explains why he didn't know what jutsu was coming.
