Kishimoto has stated that the Boruto manga is just as important to him as the manga he is working on. He is closely supervising it to make sure it follows his vision. In fact, the artist originally didn't want to do a movie recap but instead reboot the entire franchise. Kishimoto insisted that that was retarded and instead he wanted to start with the movie recap to flesh out the characters and events more.

He specifically chose the writer and artist and considers the manga the true continuation of the story. It's better than the movie tbh, even if the art had a rough start it's been getting a lot better and you can see how the artist uses dramatic angles and a fully 3-D dynamic artstyle just like Kishimoto.

Also the artist is the one who designed Zabuza and Haku, so he's already made his mark on the Naruto franchise way before this and understands the story well, he's the most logical person to take the mantle.

His new design for transformed Momoshiki shows he still has great creativity for designing characters just like when he created Zabuza and Haku's designs 16 years ago.

Im cool with the new artist. Gives us a chance to still get Kishis work, while having a fresh take on it. Love Kishi but I think it was apparent that he grew tired of working on Naruto. So this is a good thing. Give him a break, allow him to oversee Boruto, and maybe in a few years Kishi will give us something else that's pretty damn great as well.

Also, i think Ikimoto has a lot of potential. He's taking over one of the most widely known manga of all time, and people expect perfection already. 7 chapters in and there's already a world of difference from the 1st chapter. I think he's gonna do just fine.

Tell us something we didn't know.

Whilst I prefer this design overall, I still prefer the original's horns.

I have to admit that Ikemoto's design looks a lot less menacing though.

I agree with this. His start was weak but this last chapter was totally fine and if he keeps improving like this than the only thing we have to worry about is whether the story will be good or not and that we can't know until we actually see his story.

The redesign sealed the deal for me. I really hated the movie one.

& I believe in his improvement. Just depends on the story and how he builds up to Kawaki vs Boruto.

Does this mean if Boruto becomes a tv series they'll animate the movie recap as well with its differences which would make the movie rerconned? Or canon but not storyline official.

I see his manga as more bleach inspired.

I disagree. I think Ikemoto's design gives off a "fallen angel" vibe, while Kishimoto's was more of "big scary ogre demon thing".

I feel like his design is more menacing honestly. Gives a kind of eerie, unknown vibe. The movie design he just became another big ogre/demon thing. Im not sure what to expect from this new design, and I like that.

TL;DR

Boruto manga is still fodder for rehashing a more popular movie.

It's no good having a fallen angel vibe if you're a lazy cretin who has never had a good bone in your body. He always was demonic, self-centred and bad to the core.

Personality wise that is true, but appearance wise, Momoshiki kind of has the purity thing going for him. With the prevalent white color and the almost royal garments. I think that's what they were going for originally, with the ogre form being him showing his true colors, but the theming kind of works with the new design too, with the black on his skin and tattered robes serving as a corruption to his purity.

Yup, it already has the requirements to be called "canon".

The only way it's not canon if it becomes supremely unliked which so far they are doing a good job
