Most overhyped character in the series?

And by overhype, I mean undelivered hype. Madara, for example, while very much hyped before his first appearance, that very first appearance involved him introducing a whole new tier of strength in the series, so I at least don't think he would fit the bill. For me though, it would be either Itachi or Hiruzen. You?

Its the whole "show, don't tell" thing. Its hard to see Yata as this unreachable weapon that can block all Kaguya throws at it when its best feat is tanking Orochimaru's strongest attack.

Because he clearly had no idea how high the power levels would rise later on in the manga. That's like saying Rakiri can pierce anything back in Part 1 without taking into account the likes of Gudoudama, Susanoo and any stronger defences that would much later be created in the manga. Its there, sure, but its not as reliable as you would like for it to be taken as undoubted fact.

Frankly the only reason Itachi (his sussano's sacred weapons) are so hyped are because we didn't see them often.
Exemple, totsuka was said to seal for eternity......but Orochimaru don't agree with.

Or Yata miror according to the databook block attact by altering the shild affinity....exemple if the ennemy attack with a katon jutsu, the shield will have suiton caracteristic. But how he can block ameterasu ? a bijuu dama ? Oiniki's technique ? The yata miror is only so hyped is because we see it only once.

Orochimaru's case is entirely different. He used a kinjutsu of some sort which lets him transfer his soul and have multiple instances of it.
Sealing Orochimaru is like sealing a Shadow Clone.

And Sasuke actually defeated Orochimaru beforehand, then how did he appeared during the battle? Exactly the same reason.
