In the first series rivalries went like senju vs uchiha, sharingan vs sharingan, byakugan vs byakugan, byakugan vs 8 gates, sage mode vs ms for power rivalries for people rivalries it was based on either clans teammates or sibling rivalry
For boruto series the boruto vs kawakii rivalry be obvious ones and core symbolism will be hamura vs hagoromo. For borutos power up will be some sort of sage mode most likely bird inspired and he will get the tensiagan and also a byakugan upgrade that gives him a fighter chakra avatar. For kawakii I can see him achieving rinnegan and receiving a tiger themed sage mode.
Sarada will most likely achieve ems and I suspect see will have a female sharingan rivalry vs gaaras daughter yodo. For one someone question how she get a sharingan in a gaaras hiden novel he meets a women experimented on by orochimaru giving her a sharingan eyes. So she could of received her eyes from her.
Mitsuki his greatest rivalry is most likely his dad which is based on the 8 headed snake in Japanese culture also folklore of a nine headed dragon so being his dad's upgrade. His dad probably gave him list of abilities attained birth like jugo abilities suigetsu abilities and think have strong to affinity because in asian culture dragons are kings of the sea.
I think metal lee will be upgraded version of rock lee by having the elemental kekkei genkai for steel release which give him metal skin increase fighting and defense and probably reduce harm of opening the eight gates. Also gaara hiden novels says steel release clan is home in village hidden in stone. So think of this rock lee marries women from stone village and has son with metal kekkei genkai. I think steel release produced by combining double earth release and other members konaha married outside village to strengthen ties so make sense to me. I could see him serving as rival to him like the one rock lee and neji had.
I could see boruto and himiwari having a sibling and byakugan vs byakugan rivalry since it's confirmed at some point boruto will be an ex leaf ninja u could see them having a itachi and sasuke type rivalry
Even though konahamaru is seen as an irrelevant character he is the team captain of borutos team, he emulates naruto wanting to be hokage. We see past captains of the strongest team in the village become hokage. Konahmaru last name saritobi means monkey jump, Hiruzen summon turns to staff similar to one monkey king has so we can see clear inspiration from the monkey king from journey to the west in their clan. The four tailed beast son goku has clear dbz inspiration named son goku jinchuuriki named roshi number of tails are 4 like the 4 star ball. Also the five tailed beast reminds of another main character in the journey to the west story the white dragon horse. So it makes sense that konahamaru will get both the 4 and 5 tailed bear make a bond with them because this time the bijuu will pick their host emulating naruto even more.

I also think that there's a deeper mystery why boruto can do the throwing rasengan possibly containing small amounts of kyuubi chakra.
Lastly this one isn't a theory, but more of a hope I want Kakashi to gain his own sharingan which he receives from orochimaru and ability to go in sage mode from him. Evolves his sharingan with Ms and obito comes back from dead one last time to give Kakashi ems eyes.
