That article :

While I don't give a damn about Gandhi, that line alone is telling enough how typical missionary Christian the article is. Tell the writer to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

Yes Gandhi was no saint. He was a British loyalist whom British purposely promoted as face of the Independence movement to suppress the more demanding faction. More demanding faction aka Leader like Tilak who were asking for freedom early on. They would get jailed and put in rough conditions. Leaders like Savarkar - again a hard core patriot asking for complete freedom along with many others were sent to circular Jail in Andman Islands. Google to find out what kind of jail it was and what they did to political prisoners there. But not Gandhi. Gandhi and Nehru were pets of British government. They asked for more rights and autonomy but not actual freedom. Not till 1942.

British left because of the WW2 and because Navy was about to revolt as well and many other local conditions had changed by then. And also because by then even Gandhi had to change his tune to asking full freedom. Demand for a new Muslims country Pakistan was at peak and the riots to fulfill that demand were already on.

Yes he was stupid enough to think he was being idealistic when he was being complete moron. And yes he was not that great as the media of the time made him look. Even the idea of non violence protest was not his.

But that article is still highly biased and hateful and it's target is not Gandhi.

He was shot. If he was alive I would happily give him a kick or two. But that article is distorting the narratives to suit the intention of the writer. Gandhi had tons of faults even without it.

e.g.The article said he prevented his son from marrying a Muslim. That's BS. His son had converted to Islam. Although that guy did it more to get attention than any real intention and after some time he converted back to Hinduism. When asked about it he replied he got bored. ( and that one pulled many such stunts back then)

It's not like Gandhi could stop him from doing anything if the son wanted. He was an adult and Gandhi hardly ever paid attention to his kids. People ignored this part because they accepted him being more dedicated to the country at large.

I edited again to make it more clear how that article is making up narratives.. Although I'm not sure why. It's like the writer thought " hmm how can I make it look worse.. or more twisted". That 's just lame when you can do better without it and be more authentic.

I suppose he wanted the article to appeal more to his audience and twisted facts accordingly.

But yea people like Gandhi or Mother Teresa get a lot more credit than they actually should get.

As for low blow- Gandhi doesn't represented Hinduism. As the time passed and people started to realize what happened back then his popularity too went down and none of his absurd ideas are condoned.

He wanted to look like a great idealist leader of all communities but in the end no side cares about him that much. It's just that back then the opposite views within his party, didn't get that much press.

His secretary left because of it leaving a strong letter against that. Patel etc also had to tell him to stop. That part was really awful. He could get away with it only because of the clout and that media not wanting to see it.

He earned that bullet. Only sad part it was too late by then.

I still believe he was a great man, because he has inspired people during his life and long after his death. Great men do not have to be perfect.

Anyways, Ghandi was a South African citizen at some point. His rise to fame was in direct proportions to Chief Albert Luthuli a former Rhodesian(now Zimbabwe) turned South African spear head of ANC. Ghandi was never part of "Umkhonto weSizwe" when the black people were having it the hardest, instead he was laying arguments of showing how Indians were closer whites than they think etc. Even his movement was enforced by him getting kicked out of the "whites only" train coach. He was puzzled thinking he would be immune to the stigma against non white skin in the then South Africa

Can you give the actual details? Have you read what the whole case is? Because I very much doubt anyone would bother to file a case with just that much. It won't hold even in one hearing and court cases cost more.

Ah I searched for the case- that's hardly anything but political grandstanding on both sides. The lawyer who filed the case probably just trying to get some attention.
