You know, there's probably a good reason why Sakura, despite being a genjutsu type
was never given any real genjutsu.
...And that reason is inner Sakura.
Inner Sakura is an ethereal being that resides deep inside Sakura. She has the ability to break Sakura out of genjutsu but not only that, it's very possible that she can kill too.
When inner Sakura says "you'll be sorry" to Ino if she doesn't get out, we can presume here that Inner Sakura has the ability to kill.
Doesn't inner Sakura remind you of a certain jutsu? Yes, that's right, Dan's spirit transformation jutsu. Using this jutsu, Dan can exit his own body (like a ghost) and possess another and is easily capable of killing.
My theory is that Inner Sakura was originally intended to be used in a similar way but the idea was scrapped because she'd be too OP. The fact that Tsunade took an early interest in her is very telling. Inner Sakura is most likely an incomplete version of spirit transformation.
