As you pointed out already, the Shikas know their place when speaking to a strong, independent woman. They couldn't get away with talking crap about women to Tsunade because she'd crush them. Shika's dad basically bows to her, he'd probably do anything she says. Since Sakura is similar to Tsunade and we see a lot of parallels in the next generation, Shikamaru is probably bowing to Sakura.
