Tell me what you know about Puppetry in the Narutoverese

What is puppetry?

Puppetry is the unique fighting style that originated from the Ōtsutsuki clan involving the manipulation of marionettes. Through chakra strings, the user controls the joints of these marionettes. It is said that the more skilled the user, the less strings he requires to control a puppet. While 10 is considered the max per user, Sasor was able to bypass this trhough a secret technique he developed, being able to summon 100 (or more - forgot) puppets at a time. While a very strong fighting style from a distance there are drawbacks. Most puppet users are poor close combatants making them vulnerable in close range of their target but can be remedied if the user trains in taijutsu as well to cover this weakness. But it gets even worse though when it comes to drawbacks. Like all puppets, they are like machines in which if you interfere with their gears/joints/machinations you can lower its capabilities if not outright disable its use. The puppets are dependent on the user as they lack will (non-Ōtsutsuki clan puppet techniques) which makes they're movements slow. As such, the users hands are crucial in controlling the puppets also making them the first choice of attack. The user can also be vulnerable if all his puppets are destroyed but can coincidentally use his chakra strings to control humans if the need arises but requires great coordination between the user and target. This has a similarity to the Nara's shadow binding.

Good job for the most part. A user can also cover up their short-range weakness if they create a puppet to wear like an armor such as Hiruko or even turn themselves into a puppet. Chakra threads are able to be supressed enough to the point of where they are invisible to naked eye, but just before a puppet user attacks the opponent can look at their finges to [predict just what they are about to do. There's a lot of small stuff we can need to go over, but we can do that during the training.

Do you want to do this Rp style or Anaysis

We could have still done it rp style :shy:

Anyhow this probably won't take long because I don't believe you're in Suna so you won't be able to use Crow, Black Ant, or Salamander or any of those puppet specific jutsu though imo you should since you have a Kankuro bio so I'll ask around.

Now we have the most basic puppet technique that is to be known by all puppeteers. With the puppetry jutsu it allows for the user to do the most basic function of puppets and that is controlling them with threads. There is also, an interesting thing about this jutsu which is the fact that is does not have to be used only on puppets, but can also be used to control actual people. When generating chakra threads it allows for a user to control up to a set amount of puppets on their fingers. This jutsu also has many supplementary usages which should be looked in to. Puppet threads where shown to be quite sticky since they can lift up objects and people so next time looking into the jutsu remember that you could also use to it lift or grapple onto objects such as rocks to throw them at an enemy. It is also important to note that chakra thread reach up to Mid-range which means that a puppets techniques can have its range increase, for example say a puppet has a short-range attack, since the chakra threads reach up to mid-range the range of the puppets attack would therefore be increased which is important to note.

(Kugutsu No Jutsu) - Puppetry Technique
Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defense/Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10(-4 each turn its used after wards)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes threads of chakra that are used to control puppets.

Now we have one of the most basic puppet jutsu which can be used by both cannon puppets and custom ones since it isn't specific to any. The user starts off by chanelling their chakra through their chakra threads, and by opening a valve on the puppet will emit a circle of raw of chakra which can be used as a defensive ward. Also, its important you know that since this is raw chakra that it can only defend against D-rank and below elemental jutsu.
(Chakra No Tate) - Chakra Shield
Rank: C
Type: Defensive
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The puppets arm will pop out in four different directions in almost an umbrella-like manner. The arm segments will surround the puppets hand, and from those segments, chakra will emit, each one making one fourth of an entire circle, making a shield of pure chakra.
Here we have one of the most unique puppetry jutsu available out of the cannon list. This jutsu is pretty useful because it allows for the user to send a large array of poison tipped senbon at a target. The fact that this jutsu is C-rank in strength does not even matter much if you consider that just one scratch from one of the senbon is enough to severely poison a person. Another thing to not over look is the fact that this jutsu can be fired for as long as the user chooses, and I would even go as far to say this jutsu could greatly hinder a person's movements. As seen in the anime the senbon are extremely fast so you will great reflexes in order to avoid all of them. When using this jutsu in an actual fight I would think that closer you are to the enemy the less time the enemy has to react to them. Also, the enemy will have to avoid all of the senbon which means that the more you can limit their movements such as a going in the air or underground increases your chances of a fatal shot. The Underworld swamp jutsu prevents them from going underground but, also traps them in one position leaving them open for a clear shot. If you're trying to prevent then from going in the air you can use the Sticky earth drop technique or the jutsu that summons a dome from above. If using for more than one move then it will cost one of your moves next turn.

(Senbon Ame) - Endless Rain of Senbon
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The puppet will open its mouth wide, unleashing a torrent of senbon. All of the senbon are poison-tipped, meaning that a single hit by one could be deadly. These senbon can shower the opponent for as long as the user wishes.

Oh snap! My bad. We could still rp. In fact we probably should since you are Sasori and i have Kankuro. lol

Um...how about this to make it flow better. I'll do my best to rp this and then next reply you can reveal yourself to be Sasori. Let's pretend you were still in Suna or something or whatever grinds your gears.

Also, the part about being part of suna refers to the bios place of birth. It doesn't refer to the usergroup like other techniques that require you to be part of the actual usergroup. That is how I understood it all these years and everyone I've spoken to. Regardless, Kankuro was born and raised in Suna either way you slice it so it makes sense to learn his puppets. I know for sure he can't learn Chiyo's puppets. Would be cool if puppetry could be divided into types and as a custom character you could pick which type like White Style (Chikamatsu's puppets & Fuuin-type techs), Black Style (Black, Crow, Salamander & Poison-related techniques), or Red Style (Sasori-related puppets & kinjutsu-related techniques). Or nah. Would make it more interesting to be a custom character. :p

Anyways...let's begin shall we? o-o

Damn! Now I want to be a puppet shishou too. *sad face*

Kankuro listened to the cloaked man's words. They were filled with much wisdom and understanding that it seemed like it came from experience. As he explained the first technique, he was quite intrigued as to how it worked and what it could be used for. He replied in a manner according to him, lazy but headstrong.

"Well like you said senpai, the chakra strings are adhesive and allow you to control objects. Once a connection is made, through the use of your chakra, you can dictate it's movements if it contains several parts. It's quite interesting in how it's able to do that but my best guess would it could attach itself to the chakra system of the object (if any) and control it's flow in some way. Being one of the basic techniques, it is very powerful and the foundation to any techniques we wish to employ. The minute workings of it escape me as I don't really have the mind to explore it but on it's own it can do so much for us.

Advantages...disadvantages...(thinks)...well for one, I know that the strings are easily able to be seen once "activated" right? I particularly remember it being able to be cut by a sword fueled with chakra so I would imagine wind and lightning make quick work of that. Luckily, as experienced puppeteers, we can circumvent that weakness by reattaching the strings back to our target if we desire, no? Hmm...I'm not sure but couldn't someone, through our strings, be able to overtake us by linking their chakra to ours? Or am I overthinking it? Regardless, it's a very useful technique in it's concept and as the basis of our style but one thing that has been scratching my noggin' is if I have to use this in battle for every time I use a puppet or when exactly does this technique come into play? When should it be used and no used?"

(Pause intended for your reply)

Resigning himself from probing the technique further, Kankuro continues with the analysis of the next technique.

"Chakra Shield...ah yes! Granny Chiyo showed it to me once. Based on what I observed, she seemed to have replaced her arm with a puppet arm. I find it incredible that she was able to manipulate it so well. The way I understood how it worked was you channel chakra to the specific arm(s), allowing it to open up and spawn blades akin to a fan. I assume that the "blades" attach to each part creating a circular shield consisting of chakra. Since it is manipulated through a puppet instead of oneself, it should only be able to offer a rudimentary defense against techniques - low-level techniques as you said. Nothing particularly complicated or amazing about it to note. To be honest, I wish there was something I could do to make it more powerful but not like it is on my list of priorities. Good to use in a bind.

Oh! I wanted to ask what rank of taijutsu is this able to counter? D-Rank like the others or...?"

(Pause intended for your reply)

With that part out of the way, Kankuro happiy replies to the next technique. His teacher could tell it was a favorite of his as well.

"Okay then. (Surprised) Ooooh! I really like this one. Through your puppet, you cause it to release a barrage of senbon in any direction you choose though I would believe it's nothing like 360°. 90° maybe..no? The added bonus to these senbon are that they are dipped/tipped in poison. One thing I am disappointed is the fact it doesn't elaborate on the poison aspect. Like how long it lasts and what effects do the poison have on an target which is especially important for battles that drag on. But alas, not something I'd want to complain as that usually works in our favor and one of the reasons we are hard to combat against...or at least those of us who are skilled. Your knowledge of these techniques denotes experience with them. I would think it logical that you are a puppet master yourself but can't really tell with all that mysterious fog covering you. Is there a gas leak somewhere? >_>

Anyways, what I love about this technique besides the poison aspect, is it's ability to cover a great distance and its speed. But that alone doesn't make it overpowered. What makes this very dangerous and absolutely brilliant is when you combine it with another puppet, either to add to the barrage or compliment with a smokescreen like a poison gas cloud or just a smoke cloud. The possibilities are almost endless but like with everything we will learn here, it requires tact and patience. We puppet masters are kings of patience. Perhaps that's why we make great lovers."

(Places his hand on his chin and wanders off mentally)

"So, you mentioned earlier that "If using for more than one move then it will cost one of your moves next turn". I don't see the reason to do that but it is great to know it's possible. The fact it takes a move your next turn, or in some cases - consecutively, makes me rather do something else than waste a slot like that. Nothing else I can add since there doesn't seem to be any disadvantages other than coming from a puppet(s). Do you think I missed something?"

Alright so we'll go over his puppets like I had planned from the beginning. Also, that would be pretty cool if we could have puppetry divided into groups like that probably should ask someone to do that lol.

Sasori made sure to listen attentively to what his comrade said, as he tried to explain the technique he had presented him with. Just about everything Kankuro mentioned was accurately spoken and, only a few thing would need clarification on which he began to clarify.

" You're right in sense that the threads can easily be cut, destroyed or detached from any low ranking attack, and just as easy as they are destroyed we can simply reattach them to our target. Overtaking us with our chakra threads you say, well I wouldn't look at it that way I would be thinking that the user would be able to use their chakra threads to attach them to a person and over ride their chakra system inflicting a sort of paralysis on a person, but it also works in vice-versa like you said someone could potentially do the same to us. Sometimes you won't always need to attach chakra threads toa puppet in order to use their ability for example you are able to summon puppet structures which are able to fire weapons simply by summoning it. Though for the most part you will have to attach your chakra threads to a puppet . There isn't really a time when you should or shouldn't use it that all depends on you "

Contemplating what he should say next Sasori began confirm his apprentinces thoughts on the next technique at hand.

"To answer your question it would be able to defend against C-rank taijutsu unless for some reason it is chakra enhanced or has a elemental touch to it. It's good to remember that this technique shows the possibility of transferring chakra into puppets, and can also be used to enhance weapons with a coat of chakra just note when making puppets"

Now we have our last technique out of the trio.

"You said you think it's nothing like 360 degrees or 90 degrees, but remember a puppet isn't like a human so a puppet would be able to effectively turn its head in ways which aren't normally possible for a human. So yes as the senbon are firing out you could maneuver its head to attack at different angles. Also, the poison attributes of these puppets are mainly more suited to Sasori Bios sense he has his on special type of poison, but for other user's it doesn't really mean much. You're pretty right when you say that the possible combination are endless with it especially when you have another puppet by your side. Lastly, I don't see it as a waste actually the fact it can go on to the next turn can be pretty useful."

" First, we have one of the very first of puppets that I have ever created. This puppet can be used on its own, but their are usually times when you are able to combine it with different puppets. Crow possessess the ability to dislocate any of its limbs so that it can reveal knives from just about any point on its body. Also, the dismembering of its limbs is a great way to increase the range of its attack. It is also important to know that Crow possesses the ability to use the Endless barrage of senbon techniuqe, Poison smoke screen, or the chakra shield jutsu."
(Karasu) Crow
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Crow is the very first puppet we see in the series. It was created by Sasori, but is later used by Kankurou. Crow is a three eyed, four armed humanoid. Crow is one of the more basic puppets, but he is able to detach any of its body parts for deadly attacks, almost every joint having a blade at the end, allowing Crow to shoot his arms towards the opponent, and then have them return back to it. Even his head has a blade that can be extended out from the bottom of its neck when detached. This ability made it and Black Ant a very deadly combination. It also has the ability, like most puppets do, to release poison-tipped darts and smokescreens, which sometimes have poisonous gas mixed with them.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

" Like I said previously with Cow its possible to use Black Ant in combination with other puppets such as Crow or Salamander. It has a pretty neat technique which allows it to open up its stomach in order trap enemies inside. It says that Black Ant can detach its stomach to mid-range, but if you consider that your chakra threads will be attached to it then it can effectively reach up to Long range! Similarily to Crow it can dislocate parts of its body in order to reveal knives from them, this puppet I believe was capable of burying itself underground to stealthy reveal itself. Another thing to note with this puppet is how the user would probably not be able to catch the enemy inside of it from simply throwing it a target, so it would be best to use before hand or have another puppet use a smoke screen."

(Kuroari) Black Ant
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Black Ant, created by Sasori, is a puppet that is often used in conjunction with Crow and, later on, Salamander. It has a bucket-shaped face with two red horns and a total of six arms. It, like Crow, has three eyes. Its body resembles a very large barrel, and it is hollow on the inside, making its main use to be that of trapping, while weapons enter the many slots on its body. At any time, Black Ant can literally open its stomach, and trap an opponent, able to extend the two halves of its stomach so that it stretches out and over the opponent from a very fair distance (approximately mid range) and then retracts the stomach back to its original form, closing it with the opponent inside. Its arm segments contain hidden saw-blades. Like Crow, Black Ant can detach its arms for attacks.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

" On to the last one, out of the trio this is the defensive one which has pretty neat defensive qualities. It possesses a shield that can be manipulated to cover front external attaks or even from above. Like Black Ant Salamander can be used to protect the user from attacks by climbing inside, Salamander has also been seen to carry quite a few people so it would be possible to put your puppets inside as well. Also, it can only be defeated by puppeteer's who know it's weaknessess which would be me (Sasori) or Kankuro. Another way to defeat it would be an attack of at least A-rank providing some decent protection. Considering you can use Crow, Black Ant, and Salamander together at the same time you could possibly deal some lethal damage to an enemy. Let's not forget about its ability to stream fire which isn't that strong in rank, but that doesn't mean it can't be useful."
(Sanshōuo) Salamander
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Salamander is a defensive puppet, though not on the level of defense as that of Hiruko. Salamander, as its name suggests, is built in the form of a large salamander, being one of the largest puppets seen thus far, and though it is not more powerful defensively than Hiruko, it is larger than the other puppet. Salamander is able to rise up a large area on its back to be used as a shield, making a black shield over its head. It, like some other puppets, is hollow, and it can open its back at any time and then rise up its large tail over its head, stretching it out and therefore allowing the puppet user to jump inside of it for protection. Salamander can also spew out fire equal to C rank. Salamander can only be destroyed by one who knows its weak spots, being a weak joint on its side that holds the shield in place and afterwards simply striking it on its back, or by a move of A rank or higher.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user
