People are complaining because we are used to Emma Watson being the main female lead, only harcore HP fans would be bothered about the change(if it's legit) of female lead. I think the whole "casting a black actress" thing is silly and people should say "casting a new female actress". The race card is so unneeded.

Just so you all know she is suppose to be white because that's the way JK pictured her when she was writing the books.

These double standards really make me sick. Everyone complains about the Major in Ghost in the Shell being whitewashed, but anyone who has a problem with Hermione suddenly being black is racist. And yes, it is sudden. Don't let anyone who says the books never mention her race fool you, Rowling absolutely envisioned a white girl when she wrote those stories.

Black people barely get any representation in media and every single time we get just a tad bit of that spotlight there's ALWAYS an issue. I remember how pissed off white fans were when they find out the little girl from The Hunger Games was actually black and not the typical "EVERYONE IS WHITE" vision.

If the author said they were for then why is it such a big deal for fans? White actors steal roles from People of Color all the damn time yet one white person gets a skin color change and suddenly it's a problem. Some of you can hide behind your little "I'm not racist" sign all you want but the way some of you word things shows it all.

Go cry a river for another franchise just like a lot of you did because a black person dared show their face in Star Wars. More movies/plays of iconic series will be out with an all white cast. Don't worry your heads about a play you most likely wouldn't have watched if the character was still white anyways.

And as I always say: White People want to be oppressed so damn bad.

There are posts all over the Internet with the proof. Just look 'em up, bro.
You can't make a statement and then be unable to support it. Telling me to support your claim with evidence is irrational.

"Hermione is a "caricature of what I was when I was 11."
-J K Rowling
Source:

In interviews, JKR has described Hermione as being a slightly idealized version of herself. She also based Ron on a close friend of hers, Sean (to whom CoS is dedicated), and described pairing Ron and Hermione together as " " on her part. Some of her bullies are also based on her own bullies.

OT: Just take it as another version of the story. The story doesn't have that much diverse characters but it's not a big deal if they are doing it to make a point or to balance the characters out.

The only issue I see here is JKR's own comments in her interviews regarding the issues raised about the book. Be it Dumbledore's sexuality or the claim about Hermoine characters, both are clearly shoe-horned in retroactively, and it thus come of as hollow claims. For we do not see those elements of characterization in the books themselves. It's going to be noticed and then people are going to take a side. That alone doesn't make them a racist. People are complaining about Sasuke and Hinata in the new manga because of change art style, aren't they?

I'm satisfied with that answer.
