NaruHina happened because of (particularly not in order of importance or impact):
1. Neji, his death, and somehow his dynamics with Naruto and Hinata
2. Hinata, she being a side character who revolves around the majority of her panel time around Naruto, leading to the only resolution to her character to be paired up with Naruto at the end (dont misinterpret, it would have been better if we were given the substantial panels where she actually achieved being the Hyuga head. That would have erased all the hate she's getting.)
3. Naruto, his character, his finite, rare but relatively impactful interaction with you guessed it right, Hinata, along with all the yin yang connection the whole manga suggests. Yada yada Sasuke is the yin to Naruto's yang. So does Hinata. Won't we say Sakura too is to Sasuke.
4. And as mentioned, Sakura. NS could have been the red herring not really if only Sakura has shown signs of finally leaning on to Naruto. But the war has been happening and what do we get? More SS. Although the NS stuff is also plenty.
5. Well not really a fifth item. I know this is shounen but I would have found it more complicated in an appreciative way if Sasuke were to have some interactions with Hinata. I dunno, some sort of Uchiha Hyuuga sort of dynamics and maybe adding a little more tension on the romance department. But then if that happened, the story could have steered on a different path. Bye Sasuke's purity, bye Hinata's apparent side character label. That kind of thing.
I think I lost track.
Anyway, NH wouldnt have been seemingly forced if only Hinata or the Hyuga were tied in more closely to the plot
An arc could have been introduced before the war if plans for Hinata joining the main cast were intended.
NH rocks
