He refered to the beginning of it a mouth gathering, maybe it was a failed attempt at one of jirayahs jutsu.

Actually Itachi's amaterasu blew right threw the stomach of Gamabunta, that's exactly how they escaped and in a 1v1 fight with Gamabunta while outside of him, Itachi solos.

Actually no it wasn't. He was constantly spawning flames at where he was looking at until his LoS caught up with Sasuke. Had nothing to do with the flames traveling at all and that doesn't even make sense to begin with.
