Kokoro Connect is about the not-so-ordinary lives of the members of the Cultural Research Club of Yamaboshi High School. Seemingly without reason and without warning, the five club members suddenly find themselves randomly switching bodies with each other. Taichi Yaegashi, Iori Nagase, Himeko Inaba, Yui Kiriyama, and Yoshifumi Aoki―it's utter chaos, especially during times when they find themselves in the bodies of the opposite ***.

Secrets and worries that each of them have hidden away are brought to the surface, and it's unclear whether they will bring the group closer, or drive them apart. And in the center of these supernatural events is the mysterious Heartseed...

Critical Review:

'A group of five high school students randomly swapping bodies? Surely this must be pure comedy. Right?' I thought to myself. Well, i couldn't have been more wrong. The first few episodes lull you into a sense of false security with the typical slice of life comedy gimmicks but one must not be deceived. The viewer is actually taken through what can be considered a roller coaster ride. From making one question if its the body or personality that makes a person, the viewer also sees sadness, self identity issues, relationship between friends.. all of which make for an extremely powerful emotional and mind boggling anime.

The antagonist (Heartseed) in this anime seems to have Supernatural powers and taken an interest in these five high school kids. He's basically playing games with them which can also be interpreted as trying to cause them psychological trauma.

Story: 9/10

In the first arc, we have our characters switching bodies and discovering what they each feel at certain moments. In another arc, we have our characters lose control of their thoughts and unwillingly randomly send them to others in the group. All courtesy of the supernatural antagonist, Heartseed who also insists they must always be together else there'll be consequences.

I might be wrong but i believe no matter who one considers his/her best-friends, there are still some things that you'll rather prefer nobody knew. How do you then react when your deep secrets and emotions are dug up and you're basically unable to stop them from being sent to your friends? The way our 5 characters overcome each of these travails is one of the characteristics that make this anime endearing.

A perfect story mixed with surprisingly good light-hearted comedic moments and strong deep emotional concepts.

Art/Animation: 9/10

I really do not know much about art, but i thought the characters and environments were nicely drawn. Then again, it might have just been the awesome graphics? :wut: Either way i'm sure any pair of eyes that sees this won't be disappointed.

Character Development: 10/10

Yes..definitely a 10 for me. None of the characters fit the normal generic theme in other Slice of life anime. Sure at the start of the anime one might be led to believe that there is the typical 'shy' and 'strong' willed character, but they all have complicated persona's which is without a doubt fleshed out through the entire duration of the anime. The characters in this show are actually very likable. The development actually minutely spreads out to a few side characters in the show too.

Overall: 9.576/10

Basically, this isn't your typical Slice of Life anime. It's an extraordinary one. It isn't all doom and gloom and it's particularly not all comedy either. A well balanced mature anime and the best Slice of Life i have seen.
If anyone isn't in the mood to see the annoying poorly written cliche romance love-triangle thing and poor repetitive comedy of the slice of life genre, then i highly recommend this.
