Logically there is no such thing as forgiveness, there is only understanding and forgetting about situation... The difficult part being forgetting

Some times thing are beyond your control or you just try to forget it and decide to do nothing about it. You have to move on.
Some times you decide to do nothing about it to make way to restore relation.
You should forgive but never forget his/her name or what he did. He/she could do it again.

Forgiveness is rare.
When is about minor things is very easy to forgive.
But.. When you want to get revenge instead to forgive then is the moment when you are really hurt and is humanly to hate and want revenge. You forget about forgiveness teachings and you put yourself as judge. Is a sin and you know it. But you cant help it, is beyond logic, is instinct. Just a superior human can overcome this and finally forgive or accept that revenge is not the path.
We have such a good example in Sasuke , he gived up to revenge after Naruto defeats him .

The forgive but not forget is the ultimate goal to achieve inner peace.

Which church do you belong? I believe there's a big mistake here. Jesus was merciful and taught us to forgive. If you are a Christian you are called to be the most Christ-like you can.

What the quote actually means is that human frailty causes us to transgress, but in forgiveness we share and emulate a part of the essence of the divine.

What are your thoughts about it? Someone thinks it is a great virtue, but speaking with people I realize that way more think that it is a stupid/naive thing, and if someone harms you, you have to take your revenge.

Discuss

Forgiving is not an easy thing to do specially if the inflicted pain is too great and every time you see the one who inflicted it, you will be cautious around them or anyone who can do the same thing to you again and you've to be because i think that's what you say been mature or experienced .

even though i would do everything to protect myself from ones who gonna really harm me or my life and even avoid them but taking revenge on someone will be the extreme end so far not have done it though I've got really mad at people because they tried to hurt people i care about and i loves mostly cause these relationships came to me hard way but hope i won't have to take revenge on someone ever .

lastly I've caused pain to some people ( mostly unintentionally or been too late to understand how they would feel and sometimes might not have even noticed it though i would try to avoid it if i care about them even a little that i do with many ) and glad that they did forgive me or i did the same because these are people i like too be around and happy that they're in my life .

I forget and forgive in most cases. Obviously that changes if someone like killed someone I know or something, but most things in life are so small and time shouldn't be spent focusing on the negative. Best to move on.

It takes energy to hold something against someone. I've realized this as a consequence of fights I've had with people in my personal life. At the end of it, you're both just tired. Forgiveness is a healthy way to put matters to rest, and you should probably do it when the energy of not forgiving someone would take up more emotional energy than it would to just forgive them.

Interacting with people on this forum would be f***ing tedious if I held every bad thing someone did against them.

100% agreed

Well, I don't forgive those who don't give Marò back <3
But I'd say that revenge is the one that's not logical, since you are giving up your rationality in order to harm someone back. And even logic has to be based on something if you want it to work.

Whoever is without sin should definitely not forgive

I'd put it in another way: everybody who sins has not the right to not forgive.

And Sasuke is a great man ;) but I don't think there are people superior to others, I naturally have a bigger attitude to forgiveness than other people, but it doesn't make me superior than them in any way.

And I agree, but he seems to say that only God has the right to forgive, and that is the thing I was objecting.

Yeah, but I was meaning forgiveness to something personal. It's a pretty complicated thing to talk about forgiveness for someone who harmed another one. It also enters the spirit of mutual assistance and defence here.

I can't, I've tried many times because people say you should. But it's impossible for me, makes me want to vomit out my intestines.

Biggest reason I feel like I'm lying to myself, or being some kind of phony. I tried the "forgive don't forget" thing but it's a fallacy. To forgive is to forget IMO, if someone accidently did something minor that was easy to forgive, you forget about it and move on. If you see someone and you're reminded everytime what they did to you, you're not forgiving them. If you feel you have to guard yourself around them, you didn't forgive them.

Plus if I feel like I can't trust someone for whatever reason, I'm not dealing with them, no time for that. It's a lot easier for me to just cut people off rather than forgive.
