RP
Gives me something to do.
Gives me something to do.
I would only join for the banners. Could never see myself making wallies on why my fire jutsu is inferior to your water style lmao.

It's not very different than playing video games.
I used to be in the NDS before it turned to cancer, so both before/at 2014? Now I purely RP.
It does to people who care about what others think. When you get older or more mature, you kind of don't care what people think. I openly tell people I role play on an anime site, and I have plenty of friends while living an exciting life.

It's like getting the background for video game characters and then improvising just for the hell of it bit you can't actually see the actors. For those reasons and some more. I don't consider it as similar to playing videogames.
I haven't used my imagination like that since I was about 9 with my cousin and we pretended to be sonic characters. I also don't like the spotlight so that's why I could see it as a bit childish/embarrassing. I couldn't do it irl, which might be kind if a compliment to you guys? Idk.
I consider myself pretty mature. ESPECIALLY if you're gauging that off of what others think of you.
Idk man. Pretending to be someone you're not for the shits and giggles. Sounds like something from a youtube cringe compiliation to me. Although I can see how it's like acting but for what? Just to escape your life? I'm just surprised at how proud people are of it too.
Not many people know what anime is where I live so it's definitely easier to say you play videogames or w/e than roleplay.
Exactly lmao
Had me wondering what I had to do/how much I had to do for dem banners.

More along the lines of tabletop gaming, then it is video games.
There are dozens of tabletop games it could be compared to, DnD would be the most prominent example but there are dozens of different out of the box tabletop games that have the same aspects of playing a character. I doubt anyone is going outside their house screaming about being a ninja, just like someone who plays DnD isn't running around yelling about how they're a Paladin.
We're all here on an anime site about a boy and his dream to be the fictional leader of his fictional hometown. Not really seeing how being more mature then the next guy matters here. To anyone on the outside looking in, this whole site will seem childish as hell.
Makes a bit more sense. There's more substance to DnD. Physical components and luck paving your path. You have a proper format and can craft your story better with more imagery and it being more spontaneous.
The fact you have to compare it to DnD for it to seem not so bad says it all really. It's the stereotypical nerd game. Not very glamorous at all.
I'd be more attracted to RP here than the likes of scrabble, perhaps. It's still easier to explain videogaming as a hobby imo.
You haven't exactly seen the NW RP then if you think it doesn't have a proper format, like with DnD it's a skill based set of rules and abilities. You're gaining skills, and techniques as you would a DnD campaign with Attribute Modifiers, Spells and Items. Unless you're referring to the Konoha Town RP, outside of the current wave of LoT rp there isn't much structure there but for the official rp there's about as much structure as any out of the box tabletop RPG or even DnD.
I'm not comparing it to DnD to make it look better, you're able to draw your own opinion about it. I'm comparing it to DnD to give an idea on why we like doing it. It's a game where you can play a character, the same way someone plays a Gnome Cleric or a Goliath Barbarian in DnD. It takes about as much imagination to do that, as it does to build a character for the NW RP. What does Scrabble have to do with anything? I'm referring to RPG tabletop games, it's the closest analogy for what any text based online RPG is. Sure there aren't dice deciding the fate of the character but instead what abilities you're able to accumulate and use but that doesn't remove the roleplaying aspect from either of them.
How is posting in the Naruto Discussion Section anymore glamorous? There's this whole air throughout this thread of "I'm better because I RP" or "I'm better because I don't sink low enough to RP." We're still all as I said once on a site about a boy and his dreams, it's like a pot calling a kettle black. You rationalize it anyway you'd like but you're still here, what's the difference between spending your time in any section on this site? You're still going to look the same as the people who spend their time in other sections, to anyone looking in from the outside.
How would you explain posting in NDS to someone? "I argue with people on a site about a boy and his dreams about what that boy can do with his fictitious powers in my free time. Sometimes I argue one female character is better than another because of traits she has."
RP mechanics aside, the core problem of Narutobase Roleplaying is its community, I'm not saying all RP'ers are bad because I'm friends with some of them, the problem lies with the general air of pride, avarice and greed that is prevalent among many active members in that section. Because in NDS even though a majority of them are just childish trolls having fun, there's really no element of genuine malice unlike in the RP section like one RP'er getting jealous and greedy over CJs, backbiting, lack of sportsmanship among certain members, complaining to the point of harassing the RP Admin over him copyrighting certain techniques, acting like a bunch of spoiled jealous brats, not to mention some rp'ers bullying other rp'ers so they would quit. It has become a very toxic community.
