Was Tobi a stupid idea?

Between a clan of merks an assassins... I'm thinking Kakazu,Hidan, an Deidara thought he was there for a reason because, well he's in akatsuki an they're not push over rogue ninja.

Nagato/Konan knew who he was but didn't know his true goal. Otherwise Rinne Nagato could've handled obito.

Godtachi was there to keep an eye on him...so he didn't give two shits. (If Obito got out of line, the god would've handled him as well)

Kisame was all in an knew everything since Obito showed him who he was after the Mizukage manipulation.

All in all... All Tobi was there for was to bring so joy to a crowd of merks!

It was all a cheap stunt to throw the readers off. Everyone immediately knew it was Obito, so Kishi threw in a lot of red herrings to convince us that Tobi was Madara, just to make the "Obito" reveal more shocking. None of Tobi's motives/actions make sense in the context of Obito's backstory; he became a new character once he started fighting Naruto.

IMO, it's the single greatest failure in the series. It makes almost everything "Tobi" did from Chapters ~400-550 meaningless, particularly as it relates to Sasuke/the Uchiha.

Well, sure, but those were after we had accepted all of the red herrings as at least partially true (whereas they were almost completely false, and many of them blatantly contradicted Obito's War Arc motives). But right after "Tobi" showed up in his mask, with Obito's haircut, it seemed pretty clear who he was. It was shortly after the Kakashi backstory.

That was the problem. Everyone who said it was Obito had evidence that said the "haircut was the same". That was all the was going off of.

I meant that "fake" side of him. I do remember that half of obito was re-constructed from those failed clones....

Akatsuki one of the most feared organization in the shinobi world with nearly all kage level members with tragic backstorys.... Then Tobi comes and is suppose to replace Sasori like really... I understand he was the true leader and he was Obito but what was the point of it?

Itachi knew the truth
Kisame was either in a genjutsu or didnt care
Hidan i doubt would care
Same with Kakuzu
Nagato(pain) and konan played along
Deidara was the only one in the dark about it all but why?

Because those outside looking in would never suspect that Tobi would be the leader, so they might go on to kill Pein thinking that's the end (Akatsuki would fall apart), allowing Obito to fall off the radar and carry on getting his plans into place. The advantage of keeping as many inside the organization in the dark, was that it reduced the chances of an intel leak.

Kisame was willing to bite his tongue off and even commit suicide to stop the truth coming out... could you see Deidara, Hidan or Oro doing the same? Course not, they value their own lives too much.

It is impossible to solo Itachi as Lord Kishimoto has written. ^_^

Obito was pretending to be Tobi, while also pretending to be Madara. He was basically hidden in plain sight. It wasn't stupid. :|

I agree. No one would suspect a silly guy like Tobi to be the mastermind behind everything so to speak. It was actually well done.

I don't think it's Tobi people hated but the fact that he was revealed to be Obito. That...kind of ruined it for a ton of people
