There is alot of confusion regarding wether or not the Naruto novels are canon. Kishimoto himself oversaw the novels and even illustrated them. Kishimoto also promoted the novels with his movie The Last which he himself stated was canon.

How can anyone believe the novels aren't canon? :sigar:

It really isn't, Kishi only illustrated the art for them but that's about it.
I don't understand what's wrong with considering the novels canon. As far as I know they don't contradict the manga. If something happens in Boruto scans that obviously contradicts the novels (Kakashi falling in love?), then definitely it would invalidate novels, but I mean, something had to happen between Chapter 699 and 700, and Itachi had to have killed his lover somehow, etc.

It's not the same thing as the anime where if certain events happened in between manga events, then the manga chronology makes zero sense (Kakashi vs. Sage Kabuto; Chunin Exams 2, etc).

In debates and stuff it's better to keep it manga-specific because it's easier to work with manga scans than text, but

There's nothing really wrong about, it's just not canon unless kishi had direct involvement with story or confirmed it canon. Another way it can be canon is if the new boruto manga mentions novel events.

Kishimoto himself promoted the novels with his movie which he confirmed canon, he specifically stated the novels along with the last explain the events between 699 - 700. :sigar:
