I don't know how old the news is, but Scarlett Johansson is set to have one of the main roles in Ghost in The Shell.

I personally haven't seen the anime but what's your opinion on her being casted?

So far, all I've seen is people complaining that she's white. I think that's idiotic to whine about. The character looks white, she just has a Japanese name because they're in Japan. Obviously, Hollywood would change the setting to seem more relatable and use a famous actress for the sake of the movie. Also, Scarlett looks more like the role than a Japanese person would. And don't forget about Attack on Titan in Japan, they're all Japanese when it should be the opposite bar Mikasa yet people don't complain about that.

This time it's not Hollywood I'm annoyed about but people shouting racists, for this casting.
Well I mean it would be logical if it was a Japanese actress and it would be nice and if we're honest, yeah, it's racism, but not racism in the "we don't want a Japanese actress because we hate Japanese actresses" way but racism in the sense of "We want to appeal to a majorly white American audience"

Attack on Titan being mostly Japanese was the same thing, but at least it was a Japanese production studio, so it made sense that they'd mostly cast Japanese people due to the limitations of working in Japan.

No such excuse in America, there are plenty of qualified actresses

They're right to complain, but Hollywood isn't going to change anytime soon XD

When I saw her I instantly got interested in this movie. Even though I have never watched the anime. I swear if done right they could make this a blockbuster! Would love more anime movies by Hollywood.

I generally hate live anime adaptations as they're usually trash but Scarlett got me interested in this one.

Same here. It kinda looks like they are serious about this. Hollywood needs to learn to make live action Anime movies. Cause some stories of anime are worthy of the big screen. If they can pull off superheros they should be able to pull off edgy emo looking characters with attitude.

Nah, I think the attitudes and characters displayed in manga and anime don't fit reality all too well.

Nah Hollywood needs to learn to make good adaptation s period. It's gonna be hard for them to pull off a successful anime adaptation or many reasons.

Superherosare easy compared to anime. They are part of American culture it will be much harder to make a good adaptation of foreign source material that the general movie goers doesn't know anything about. Even harder to make it appeal to then and successful at the box office.

If even one anime movie bombs it's not likely Hollywood will bother anymore. Which did happen already. They could t even get the most familiar and successful anime in America Dragonball right.

But they are trying again I guess

The odds are already against them but we shall see what happens.

I am certain it will fail.

Though ghost in the shell deserves to be made into a movie more than many anime FMA too.
