How come Kakashi didn't teach Sasuke the rasengan?

Would rasengan help against Gaara's Sand? Chidori could pierce through it, but we don't know if Rasengan could do the same. Just look at the water tank comparison. Rasengan put a tiny hole compared to Chidori, which went right through it. Sure, it also exploded, but that wouldn't nececarilly work against Sand.

Well in the 3rd or 4th Naruto shippuden movie, Naruto was able to break through Gaara's ultimate sand defense with his rasengan still intact. Unfortunately its not canon.

He can only able to do chidori because of his chakra elements. Rasengan is on other hand complicate jutsu that require extremely amount of time to master and train.
+ Rasengan is base chakra only tech so for Kakashi or Sasuke to use their tech = pure base chakra will be very stupid idea since their chakra reserve is quite low. Chidori requires also chakra but since it is not pure chakra but elements summoned out of chakra.

Kakashi simply didn't consider Sasuke to be of that caliber to master the rasengan that's all....
Besides rasengan is much stronger then the chidori and difficult to master.

I see no reason for Kakashi to not teach Sasuke it.

In fact, Sasuke probably would've had made a lightning Rasengan that Kakashi was trying to create at first.

Minato Namakazi is Naruto's Father thus the jutsu belongs to Naruto and Kakashi knows that. So Kakashi can't teach Rasengan to no one sines only Naruto by law can tech it.

I explained why. Naruto's Rasengan doesn't require seals and utilizes shape manipulation at its highest level. Since Rasengan doesn't use seals and the fact that the Sharingan copy techniques based on its Chakra Manipulation, esp. on Rasengan's caliber suggests he couldn't copy it. If it required seals, then most likely, but it doesn't, so he can't.

As for Chidori, Itachi could've, but he likely had no use for it anyways.

Silly point since he couldn't use it because he didn't know it XD

The reason was that Sasukes element was lightning and Kakashi knew there were variations. It also complimented his speed and is an assassination move that's tactical and precise like Sasukes style up until then. Oh, also Sasuke was going to fight Gaara and lightning > Earth.

Although plain rasengan would've been more beneficial than plain chidori at first.
