Before Itachi had a fight with Sasuke, Tobidara tried to kill Itachi and they both had a fight, which ultimately led to Tobidara's defeat, but Itachi was still severely injured/exhausted from that fight. And right after that the latter procceeded to fight Sasuke later on.
