[Discussion] How come deaf people don't talk

Trust me there are some that are the lowest pieces of trash I've ever seen in NB and they know who they are. But yeah what can I say lol

Thought about this while watching 'Hush' on Netflix. It's about a woman who lost her hearing as a teen and a killer is outside her house toying with her. Have you ever had your ears blocked with water from swimming? I remember that happened and I was trying to whisper to my mate in class. You can't tell how loud you're speaking. That's one thing.

As for being deaf since birth or childhood. That's take a fuuuuck tonne of 1 on 1 practice with someone telling you (somehow) what to tweak and exactly how much in your words and even then you'd still sound like a little off.

I didn't mean it in a bad way. It's true and there's a few Family Guy skits about deaf people talking. E.g the "greased up deaf guy"

Imagine going deaf now and trying to learn how to speak Japanese from just words on books etc. and other people signing to you. First you'd have to learn sign language and they sign different in different countries too.

No offence was meant but the chances are. You'd sound a little off and people would pick up on something. I didn't really mean "idiot" but with tones and depending on how long you've been deaf/how much practice you've had. You could sound a tiny bit simple. Any physical representation I've seen of it gave me that impression. Although it was Family Guy so yeah...you can get how I got that idea stuck in my head.

I'm sure there are deaf people that speak perfectly and just a bit quiet sometimes to be safe. That's how I'd be if I went deaf now. For the first while anyway.

Well, people born deaf obviously can't talk as they'd be una ble to reference what they're saying against anything or how they should be saying something. As for people who become deaf, well in order to answer that try this: read my post and the ones before it in this thread only by moving your tongue/lips w/o using your vocal chords/throat or without making a sound. Your brain remembers how to make the sounds for a word, but without any way to double check the physical action of your tongue/throat you start to doubt whether you're doing it right. So speech is not possible in either case.
