do you consider the current Itachi anime story canon?

It changed some stuff from the novel, in the novel Itachi kills his lover and before doing so puts her in tsukyomi letting her live a full life with him before killing her. Basically they had virtual reality *** and that's kinda interesting and gives closure to their relationship. He also used tsukyomi on his parents to let them live a full peaceful life before killing them. I thought that was a very interesting detail which made a lot of sense and showed how Itachi really did care about Izumi. In the anime version Obito kills the girlfriend. It also never shows Itachi use tsukyomi in the way he does in the novel, he doesn't even mourn her death after the massacre making it seem like he didn't care about her. I guess that goes to reinforce how he really only cared about Sasuke in the end, but still I thought it was interesting how the novel expanded on how Itachi had other bonds that were meaningful to him rather than just his immediate family.

So I don't know, the anime version is done very well and is animated better than the Naruto movies even, so I do kind of see it as a window into what really happened. But the novel had some really cool details, Idk what is the official canon.

"During the Uchiha Clan Downfall, Itachi came to her to begin the massacre with her as he was told by Danzō Shimura that he could only spare his little brother Sasuke Uchiha. Believing that ending her life first would quell his inner doubts, he proceeded to kill her and her mother first. As he lured her mother away, Itachi approached Izumi and placed her in an extremely powerful Tsukuyomi where she lived the entirety of her life in 0.000000001/th of a second. In her dream, she became a chūnin, retired from shinobi life to become Itachi’s wife and raise their children, and lived to become eighty years old before dying of old age alongside Itachi. Because her mind was departed from reality in such a manner, Izumi collapsed into Itachi’s arms dying. Izumi thanked Itachi for giving her the life she wanted with him, even if it was a dream, and Itachi thanked her for loving him as she passed away peacefully. In the anime, she instead fought with and was killed by Obito Uchiha, who praised her eyes."

He should have let her live too in that case, just her and his brother, maybe she would have been able to save Sasuke before Naruto.

I had mixed feelings about it. But since Kishimoto himself illustrated the light novels, it's certainly something more unique compared to the other filler we got from studio pierrot. So, i say without a doubt that this is canon.

Yeah but what is canon this anime version or the original novel version? I gotta admit it's a bit more tragic this way, with Obito killing her like that while she begs Itachi to save her, pretty dark.

Gonna need some proof of that one.

The novels are obviously canon, but I don't see why are they changing some parts.... If they didn't want to show itachi's dating with izumi and how he killed her, what was the point of showing her????? She was shown to be a fodder and she didn't even once said that she loves itachi. There were some interesting facts about her that I wanted to see... For example when he saved itachi from some students and got mad at them, and activated her sharingan(in anime itachi wasn't even sure if she had sharingan) . And she was graduated a year or two after itachi anf she was said to be gifted as well, itachi's chuunin exam and specially izumi's death.
I REALLY don't see why the skipped these parts. They wasted izumi and her relationship with itachi :'(

In the novel, Itachi is the one who kills Izumi with Tsukuyomi but as far as execution and shock value goes, the anime did a great job. I liked the anime version better than Takashi Yano's version.

I consider everything canon other than some of the OVA's, Ninja Storm 3's ending, the Wii Swordsman game and Rock Lee & The Springtime of Youth. They literally change events and add nothing.

You're cheating yourself for no real reason if you immediately discount anything and everything 'filler' like its a derogatory term

I'm starting to agree with you too, the anime version definitely scared me with Obito being this ruthless killing machine. Izumi died begging for her life, a lot more gritty than the novels.

I find it just disgusting how Izumi died in the anime. Her last cried calling out for Itachi to come save her as she was slaughtered by Obito. It's very unsettling.

It was pretty cruel, Izumi got no closure to anything in her life she clearly did not want to die at such a young age.

I disagree, I think stuff like this can be argued to be canon as it is based upon the "new era opening project" but the other fillers completely contradict the manga for the most part especially the ones toward the beginning of Shippuden. I consider this anime arc canon and the rest of the novels, but that's it.

If you consider everything canon than you will be reading a story with no real logic.
