I've been trying to learn the King's Indian Defense. My problem is, after 1. e4 Ng6 2. e5

What's the best way for me to punish him pushing the pawn up?

I don't assume there are any GMs on this site, but it can't hurt to ask around. lol

Why you not googling it? (And this thread belongs in the sports section).

Anyway on youtube there are many videos on that specific defense as well.

Have fun watching them xd

Really since when is chess a sport? Competitions are not always sports just because 2 sides compete with each other. A rubiks cube solving contest isn't sport.

I have googled it. The answer that I've found that is that there isn't really a KID for e4. Rather, I've to adopt a Nimzo-Indian or some other opening. The video you linked doesn't consider the white opening that I described.

And yeah, technically, chess is a sport.

I agree, but then again, on what basis do we say wich games are sports and wich arent?
Athleticism. Not to downplay the impressiveness of the level of intellect it requires to play chess well.

In any case, since when is this a serious topic?

As for your question:
It's not for me but simply having contests and titles doesn't qualify it as a sport. Even physical activities, if I were to host an annual sack race contest for the next 30 years I wouldn't ever consider it a sport. Chessboxing now that's a sport

Okay then, I'll stick with the official definition/classification.

Did you not read your own link, there is no official accepted list of all sports and "The inclusion of mind sports within sport definitions has not been universally accepted, leading to legal challenges from governing bodies in regards to being denied funding available to sports" Or how about how The International Olympic Committee recognizes some board games as sports including Chess, yet Chess not being included in The Olympic Games? Just because the meaning has been altered to kowtow to people whose feelings got hurt they weren't being called athletes too doesn't mean it needs to be accepted.

Well I don't see why only physical games are to be treated as sports. I am all for climbing, running, swimming etc to be considered sports, but things like football or basketball are basically games as well. The difference is you gotta run around and catch the ball.

Indeed, I'm all for the "traditional" meaning of sports and separation from gaming, but the criteria isn't for me (or anyone else here) to decide. Fact is, any discipline wich has a lot of interest and a competitive potential is a sport.

But again, athletic sports are not the only type of sports.

You haven't read my link either:

The precise definition of what separates a sport from other leisure activities varies between sources. The closest to an international agreement on a definition is provided by SportAccord...

Chess being a sport according to the above mentioned SportAccord's definition is the closest to an international agreement.

You're trying to make the exception be the rule just because chess being a sport doesn't fit your closet mindset.

The ancient Olympics gathered together not only athletes but also poets, who read their verse, philosophers who expounded their learning and statesmen, who used the occasion to negotiate and conclude agreements. The idea of peace, understanding and mutual respect still permeates those taking part in the Olympic Games today.

With 186 member federations, FIDE is among the biggest sports organizations in the world, very proud of over forty official championships for youngsters, men, women and seniors.

Chess is an affiliate member, or fully recognized by, National Olympic Committees in 117 countries, and chess as a sport is recognized in 107 countries. These numbers are constantly being revised upwards.
