Polls consistently show that Muslims in more developed countries have more modern attitudes, completely trashing the nonsensical idea that the deplorable attitudes of Muslims from less developed countries are down to their religion.


It's primarily cultural; it always has been. All Semitic religions have similar baselines (except for Baha'i, which is more progressive), but through the shifting of cultures, it just so happens that the Christian dominated West started a sudden cultural trailblaze a few centuries ago, so that same West made leaps and bounds in equality, fair treatment and societal development and so, the bad of Christian values started to be sifted away, with people focusing on the good of it. That trend is happening with Muslims, Jews etc who move/grow up in the West, but not as much to those living in underdeveloped societies.

They seem to get that violence is wrong, but many such societies don't show brevity or awareness of gender equality or the like. It's ironic really; West Asia started advancing in that fast fashion first, but slowed much quicker, and as the Western world started.

Lets assume your information is indeed correct what do you suggest the west to do to ban innocent muslims including liberal and secular ones?? also you have to take in mind that once a person gets wealthier the extremists tend to be significantly less due to a better education not only that but intensive background checks are applied before they're able to even travel abroad. You forgot that Islam has been like that for 2000 years. It hasn't really progressed. During it's existence the leaders of Islam have said and accepted some pretty horrible stuff. All in all it's just a case of commonly accepted views that helped to shape the culture and made them what they are today. One leader coming out in the open and changing his mind on certain things isn't going to take the blame from Islam as a whole.

It's not one leader but the whole of religious leaders of Islam.

Issues like death for apostasy and homosexuality and women's rights are still approved in most of the islamic states. That feeds the behaviour against human rights in Western countries. I don't see how it really matters if one or two islamic leaders say they condone something when their laws are what they are. In conclusion: there are too many issues with the culture itself so that you could give it a free pass based on some opinion of a few chosen people. It maybe a step for right direction, but using it as an argument really undermines the whole issue.

Irrelevant as well. The topic isn't what is done in Islamic states, but wether or not Islamic leaders and those who follow them condemn it or not.

Btw..Isis followers take their "rules" straight from Koran. This just shows the ridiculousness and paradox of the religion itself when you are quoting a book literally for your laws and then still expect some people to cherry pick it's points and passages and expect people like Isis terrorists to follow the _view_ of a few clerics. This wasn't about Isis, but just as an example.

The closest thing that comes to what Isis is doing is Jihad, wich is understood as a spiritual struggle against oneself rather than violent conquest by the official Islamic teachings. (There goes the idea of it not advancing.)

In short:

- Islam is represented by its religious leaders
- Religious leaders condemned the radical acts based on the religion's offical teaching
- Hence Islam opposes radical acts

From here it follows that those who don't abide by the religion's laws are practicing a different form of that religion and as such form a separate group.

To accuse another group wich officially condemns the acts of the radical group is to accuse those who are innocent of supporting the guilty while being ignorant of the claims of the very ones you are accusing.

I've read his post in a thread about faith and I was loling the whole time, but I won't derail here even if the two are relatable.

I can understand his concern for the safety of others due to extremist but the reasoning he's giving is flawed. I've shadowed threads he was in and a lot of his are ignorant

I agree. I also feel if you truly care for humanity instead of posting this stuff here you should go do something about it. I feel coming in here to post facts about something won't do anyone any good. Because no one on this site has the power to change the world. That requires a whole different step.
