This chapter had one minor flaw but was pretty good. It's like all celestial spirits can freely summon themselves now. Even with a broken key. Unless the broken key leaves a permanently open door for Aquarius but I doubt it.

The MS translation is out and it correctly says it's Capricorn's key, not Scorpio's. I assume the translators got confused with Zoldeo sounding like Scorpio.

Aquarius's pulled a Loke? Her key is destroyed but still managed to return. There's no doubt that we will be getting an explanation but if she is back then that amazing moment we got back in Tartoras won't have as much impact for me. Maybe her return was a trigger that she made if Brandish ever tells Lucy about Layla? Why would Layla give the keys away only to take them back? Looking forward to these questions being answered.

Her development wasn't ruined, IMO that Tartaros scene lost a bit of it's emotional impact but that's just for me and it may or may not change depending on the explanation we'll be getting soon. Lucy is still developed nicely since that moment.
It's obvious that it'll get explained at some point. You don't expect every plot reveal to be answered entirely in the same chapter it's featured in, do you?

I don't really see how this is an asspull. To be honest I never understood the drama in the first place around Aquarius. Her key got destroyed, not herself. A celestial mage uses her own magic via the key to summon the spirits, but it has been shown that under certain conditions spirits can go to the real world on their own accord. The difference is that they need to use their own magical power, which then start depleting rapidly. The real world almost functions like a poison on them.
So that Aquarius can summon herself isn't that surprising.
Despite that not everything is clear about the whole summoning spirits thing, I don't think that's how it works. For starters it's not like all the spirits are keeping tabs on the real world 24/7, they have their own world and their own lives and their perception of time is also different. And as said before the real world isn't really good for their health. If they are summoned they stand under the protection of their summoner, but the situation is different if the spirit goes themselves.
I was browsing tumblr and accidentally clicked on the 'FT spoiler' tag. Next chapter is going to be interesting if the spoilers are true. I am meaning to mention this hint from chapter 465. I forgot to mention this in that chapter discussion thread. The part about Layla being the descendent of Anna has been hinted through dialogues like how Mashima always do. Aside from CR trans. anyone who have read MS too would have got a glimpse of it already but CR is on point about this. So does the raw page of this panel too.

It is more likely Anna sent Messages using a certain ''Celestial Spirit'' to Layla Heartfilia who opened the gate on said date. All we need to do it wait and find out who is the spirit that acted as a mediator from Anna to Layla if it will be mentioned in the manga.

Well, it's been around 80 chapters since Aquarius is supposed to be gone. That is pretty much long of a break for FT standards and considering how fast paced Fairy Tail's plot is!. Remember, Jellal's death in Tower of Heaven arc and his revival in Oracien Seis arc?. Supposed to be dead in Chapter 101 and revived in chapter 136.
One of the main reason why Fairy Tail is popular is Japan is due to it's fast paced plot which even Hiro Mashima agreed with. So I wouldn't be surprised if Aquarius is really back.
