I will be disappointed if Alvin and the Chipmunks isn't #1.
The Road Chip already not taking #1 at the box office is enough of a disgrace as it is already

Were there even 10 good movies out this year?
If you don't just stick to the box office blockbusters then yah, there's always around 15-25 of real quality.

Fury Road, Inside Out, Age of Ultron, Ant Man, Revenant, Ex Machina, Hateful Eight, Creed, Peanuts, Furious 7, Straight Outta Compton, Shaun the Sheep, The Martian.

Bolded shouldn't be in the list. Hateful Eight doesn't come out in Cinema until Friday so I don't count that as a 2015 release and I have yet to watch SoC and The Martian.

Ex Machina is the only movie worth noting on that sub-par list of yours.

Nah, they're pretty good. It's easy to bandwagon hate them, but they're downright entertaining(Ant and Age of Ultron). They're comic book movies, and by executing what makes a comic book movie well, they're good movies.

"Pretty good" he says. Top lists shouldn't just include films that are above average by definition and if they are, then it must have been an awful year for cinema. At most those two movies are just popcorn flicks.

The funny thing about Marvel is that it's TV-based line of work is so much more better than it's movies at this stage.

And? Just because they're popcorn flicks doesn't mean they aren't good. A movie doesn't have to be Shawshank or Citizen Kane to be considered good.

I feel like that film failed on most fronts, including the 'comic book fun' vibe. Antman in particular seemed embarrassed by it's original source content and that's a recurring problem with Marvel and DC films currently.

Avengers 2 from Whedon's own words to the cluttered handling of a villain and 14 main characters....isn't something i'd class as a 'good' movie. I've made a whole vid on this haha...Still though- glad you liked :}

Hey, if that's the sort of thing you like then more power to you.

Movies are made to:
1. Provide entertainment
2. Deliver a message
3. Both

Ant-Man and Age of Ultron did the first one well, which is pretty much the main purpose of a movie: To entertain. It doesn't have to be a classic, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece. People these days are too quick to lump excellent in with good(some of them actually reach excellence, like Inside Out and Fury Road).

It's just easy to bandwagon hate.

I was instantly let down by Avengers 2 in the cinema just as it's competence as a movie, not it's reception or place in the MCU.

If you're curious & want a better explanation (not on the usual complaints either) then feel free ^_^

Also as somebody who studies this sh*t...entertainment comes under escapism which is a dangerous form of pleasure at the least. Art's sole motive (low culture & high culture) should be to create questions & a small puzzle to solve. Whether that's questioning the morality in a film (Good VS Evil), the complexities of grander themes (Shawshank, Vertigo) or simply our standards that we should be pushing and expecting from big budget releases.

Art (and yes that can include stupid unchallenging films like Star Wars or Mad Max) is all about complexity. Even if it's the simplest, easiest case to crack- it's better than sitting back & being fed the same explosions and formula again. For the record I love the MCU and thought this was their weakest year on the record (Their subsidiaries Jessica Jones & Big Hero 6 were the only products of theirs I liked personally)

Escapism is the worst excuse to allow sh*tty filmmaking as we're the only ones who suffer for it. Without quality entertainment that challenges us & surprises us everything becomes stale and robotic.

I guess that's just your opinion on the matter as I didn't really find Ant-man or AoU that entertaining. Also, you forgot the 4th point and that's to make money.

Goodbye Riker. Have fun watching your movies :)
