I don't see how Sasuke could make a one sided friendship look dumb. Sasuke hardly acted friendly towards naruto in p1 and in p2 didn't acknowledge him until he said he admitted his defeat. Even when Sasuke admitted that he thought of Naruto as a friend it was still in poor taste as Naruto was the one blindly following his heart. Their rivalry > friendship

Naruto chased after Sasuke because he considered themselves to be friends. We don't know every personal detail of their lives so maybe they were kinda friends? Anyways, I think it was worth it. Naruto probably knew that Sasuke just wanted to get stronger and that's why he chased after Orochimaru's power. Naruto thought they had a bond.
And in Part 2 Sasuke stated that he severed that bond between them. So therefore its canon that they had a bond. It was not stupidity in Narutos part.

I may call Naruto stupid for doing so, but somehow it makes me respect him a little. Seeing people like him begging forgiveness over his friend regardless how bad the latter is, I couldn't help but feel sorry and try to be tolerated with the guy. I'm mostly fierce to most people, yet I can be soft-hearted depends on the person's honesty in whatever stuff he is pursuing. It's rare to meet someone like Naruto in this world nowadays.
Sasuke may not be worth it, but if it's alright with Naruto, then I thought I might need to kill Sasuke to stop Naruto from keep on chasing his ungrateful friend. That should do it.........
Fine, Sasuke didn't ask for it, but show some gratitude at least. Luckily he's fine in the end so I don't mind much what has happened in the past between them. I know a best friend duo like these characters, and he is a penniless boy too, makes me wanna strangle that other friend of his for not appreciating him. >_> I'll do it later.

Naruto begged and humbled himself for nothing. Sasuke doesn't need no forgiveness. Sasuke can do whatever he wants.

to a normal guy this act of modesty was far more than Sasuke ever deserved....but if we look it from where Naruto was coming from he understood Sasuke's thirst for revenge and thus he did it... As far as being modest and humble is concerned I personally feel that it shows the inner strength of a person...the person who has got a strong heart will be willing to bow down even to someone inferior than him/her if it solves a problem
