One thing everybody is forgetting is that story about them being equals was told from Itachi's perspective, someone who was lying and was ignorant of the situation. He said Madara was greedy and stole his brother's eyes when we know that's false. He said they were equals, but Hashirama's flashback contradicts that. Don't take itachi's words as gospel, especially when he was using his words to manipulate Sasuke.

Madara was always portrayed to be the stronger one, Itachi was lying.
Also Madara never stole Izuna's eyes.

Madara and Hashirama where always were always stronger than Izuna and Tobirama

Manga wanted to paint that only Madara could challenge Hashirama, and Hashirama>Tobirama. So I'm gonna go ahead and say that Madara kills Tobirama.
