Shall we do this RP style, or the generic style?
If you are who you said you are, you should be teaching me. >_>
The pressure is almost too much sensei.

Anyways, I would prefer non-rp as once you get into it, it becomes unnecessarily long winded like my sessions with good ol righty.

Lmao, this is going to be great.

So we'll start this like any other training. Simply tell me as much as you can about the following.

  • What is Fire? – Real world & Narutoverse
  • Strengths and weaknesses of Katon. – Include how elements and ranks interact with each other in our RP.
  • Explain chakra, chakra nature and shape manipulation.
  • Additional information information showing your knowledge on the Element. Eg, users of the element.

Fire Release

Fire was gifted to us mortals from the great man Prometheus after...wait sorry wrong story. Dx

Fire in the narutoverse pertains to Katon or otherwise known as Fire Release/Style. To begin to understand we have to start with the fundamentals. Fire, in our world, is the chemical reaction between oxygen and a fuel (i.e. wood or gasoline). In order to get to that point though you need to reach a certain ignition temperature of at least 300° Fahrenheit. Once you reach that, the excess cellulose from the material decomposes and releases gases (i.e. smoke). What is left then would be the unburnable minerals in the material which results in char, a combo of ash and almost pure carbon. But that's when referring to the process using wood ofc. The gases themselves when combined with the oxygen in the air and an ignition source (like a match, focused light, friction, lightning, or something else that is burning), result in the "appearance/existence" of what we know as flames or the visual appearance of fire itself. Depending on the what your are burning and how hot it is, the color of the flame can change to various colors.

Now when you mix that information, which isn't all since it gets real lengthy, with what we know about Fire Release, we start getting a better picture of how it works. Narutoverse-wise, the process begins when you superheat your chakra from within yourself, particularly your lungs, and expel them from outwards when you exhale. I believe that the wind you are inhaling serves as the needed oxygen to mix with the gases that are made up within your lungs using your chakra. I am most certain that it requires a great degree of control to get the right ratio otherwise people would be spontaneously cumbusting everywhere. The amount of chakra you knead into it the greater the damage and range it has the potential of reaching. Fire itself isn't limited to just within your lungs but as long as you get the basic concept of how fire can be made the more easier it is to apply that concept to other aspects like engulfing yourself in flames while remaining unscathed. As far as I am aware, Fire is best broken down into two types, streamline or projectiles.

Streamlined fire is when you continuously channel chakra to fire you are creating, similar to a blowtorch. The range however is limited to short range but in some cases can reach up to mid-range. These types are particularly strong as they can reach very high temperatures, easily disintegrating anything it touches. Projectiles is when you release a fireball(s) to reach greater distances but the power is divided among them. These fireballs can even reach up to long range in some cases but don't have the same impact as streamlined fire. However, what is particularly great about this type is it's ability to cover multiple angles especially some techniques that with great control, can be guided using your chakra.

Anyways as far as fire is concerned, it is an interesting element in itself. Though technically it is strong to water and weak to wind, when combined at a certain ratio, it can change its weakness and strength. Though fire can evaporate fire, when the source of water is too great, it becomes almost impossible to counter considering water is more solid. In fact with a substantial amount of water you can douse the flames and break through it depending on the concentration/compression of water. Wind can eat up fire by drowning it in an overabundance of oxygen but when toned down a bit, it can aid fire by adding power to it and making it bigger and stronger. Lightning just goes right through fire so there is no contest which is why they are considered neutral however lightning can be used to ignite a source and create fire. This proves useful when you are trying to set up traps. Earth...ah beautiful earth. When combined with this bastion of power, it can create lava. Depending on the minerals in the earth/rocks/soil and the gases that are present, the acidity of the lava can vary, creating smells that can fell even the most mighty of heroes even downright melting them in the process too. If the temperature of the fire and concentration isn't high enough, the earth can prove to be a good choice to defend from it. I don't know if I mentioned it or not but when you mix a small amount of water with a higher ranked fire, you can create mist.

Chakra is the mixture of one's physical energy and one's spiritual energy. The ratio of the mix varies from person to person and is what essentially creates one's "chakra signature". Chakra sensors and doujutsu users can see/sense these many different chakras. The more skilled the sensor/doujutsu user, the larger the distance once can recognize a particular chakra. Physical energy comes from one's stamina. Stamina is built and maintained by continuously training your body particularly in taijutsu and weight training. Spiritual energy is gained through consistent meditation, study, and discipline. This is one of the harder one's to train because not every one is adept at using their brain lel. Thse two combined create what we call one's "chakra pool". This is the figurative meter that let's us know how much chakra you have available to use in techniques. Naturally, the higher degree of technique the more chakra it will consume. However with consistent practice, one can learn how to control their usage even to the point of using the minimum to the greatest degree of quality and potency. Uchiha in particular are known for the inherent ability to house strong chakra which when combined with their natural high intellect and doujutsu prowess, are one of the most formidable opponents you can face.

Understanding now how chakra works, when you apply two specific concepts to it, you can create essentially anything you please. In particular, the foundation of all techniques rest upon the five elements: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Becoming a full fledged ninja relies on your ability to utilize your chakra to mimic these elements either by itself or in combination. The first step, Nature Transformation, is to determine the nature/element you want to mimic. Since we are using fire, let's say we go ahead and mimic a ball of fire. I would mold my chakra to heat up and visually appear to be red/orange. Then the next step, Shape Manipulation, would be to alter its state or form I want it to look like. Once creating the fire from let's say my hand, I would them compress the fire into the shape of a small sphere. The more erratic or bigger the form the more chakra and control it will require but it's nothing that you can't gain through training.

Other than all that stuff, I don't have anything more to add at this moment. As far as NB fire user's...I think we all know Ali tops the charts. Special mentions to Andy and Caliburn. ;3

If you were referring about users from the series then I believe there is no contest when it comes to Madara. Special mentions to le Uchiha, Sarutobi, and Roshi & Mei.

As an ending note, while not widely used on this base, fire really is a good offensive element that shouldn't be underestimated. Even the smallest flame, when held by genin, can fell a stronger foe when used with a bit of tact.

Okay I think that's enough for this post or else I will supass the limit.

*Stands up and begins to slowly clap with a tear rolling down my face* Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Everything you wrote was correct. There really isn't anything for me to expand on. As you mentioned Katon is mostly made up of streams and projectiles, however there are a few which include the use of scrolls, ignitable ash and also jutsu that are almost relative to how Doton is normally used, such as pillars of fire. Also the "continuous" nature of streams means that while maintaining them no other jutsu can be performed during the process without a clone or Ying Yang.

While you answered how Katon works in the RP, you didn't quite give me the one simple detail. I'm sure you know but better safe than sorry! So when faced against Suiton, the Katon jutsu needs to be one rank higher than the Suiton to neutralise it. Two ranks to overpower. On the other hand a Suiton jutsu can be one rank lower than the Katon and neutralise it. Same principles apply to Futon, just reversed. So D rank Katon neutralises C rank Futon. B rank Futon neutralises C rank Katon.

You also did great job identifying the versatility Katon has when interacting with the other elements.
Katon + Doton = Lava
Katon + Suiton = Steam (Obviously more water means more steam, allowing you to take advantage of the lack of vision)
These are really the main two combinations fire is used with.

The final thing I have to add on is the fact that Katon is generally a ranged element. Off the top of my head there aren't any jutsu (canon) that really benefit from taijutsu encounters. So the element is generally for Mid range fighting, with jutsu occasionally reaching long range.

If you have any questions ask away, if not we will continue by getting into the jutsu.

 Oh stop. This is all just stuff you learn from paying attention in class though I have to admit, the older I get the more I forget.

As far as anything else, I don't think I have more to add either at this point but if I do I'll let you know when it comes up.

Let's get the ball rolling then. ^^

So that we can roll through the D ranks quickly, i'll post the jutsu in certain categories. Categories being streams, projectiles etc. Scorps and Reborn have made this method work for all elements, though at C ranks i'll revert to my own way of teaching just because the faster D ranks are done the better.

We'll begin with the projectiles.

(Katon: Ryu Kaen Bakufuu ) - Fire Release: Dragon Flame Blitz
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: The user inhales and then exhales, shooting small balls of fire at the opponent.

( Katon: Komakai Kaki ) - Fire Release: Small Fire
Rank: D
Type: Offense
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user spews a small fireball.

These first two require the simplest of both nature and shape manipulation. As mentioned in your detailed description of Katon, these jutsu require the combination of chakra to be gathered within the lungs/chest cavity. Whether the oxygen is used to fuel the gas within you is unknown and quite irrelevant once training commences, but using that principle through exhaling the chakra and completing the process with nature manipulation, a small fire ball is capable of being released towards the intended target. In one case, there are simply multiple fireballs.

( Katon no Jutsu ) - Fire Release Technique
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: The user will release a small but powerful flame of fire at their opponent from either their limbs (through movement) or exhaling it. It can produce fire balls or fire streams or simply aid in taijutsu.

This jutsu here includes both a projectile and a stream, though I included it to save a single post justifying the stream part. Being able to be released from the mouth or limbs, its diversity is useful. Following the same concept of shape and nature manipulation, this particular jutsu can be controlled to your will. Rather than exhaling the fire, the chakra can be released from the limbs. Being able to release it from the limbs is actually rather useful for subtle taijutsu combinations (oh look, i'm being made to eat my words already!).
The properties of the stream apply to this too - if using it then no other chakra related techniques can be used in the meantime.

In this training I will provide all the details regarding a jutsu (Including advantages ad disadvantages, though most likely beginning at C rank since D rank is pretty similar), so all i'd as of you is to go through each jutsu with the following template.

  • Brief description performing the jutsu.
  • How you would use the jutsu. - So combinations etc. Feel free to say you wouldn't really use it, though try be creative.
  • How you would counter the jutsu. - See if you can think of unique methods rather than just using a water jutsu. Remember the interactions fire has with other elements and see if you can make it work for you.

- Training Dummy -

(Katon: Ryū Kaen Bakufū ) - Fire Release: Dragon Flame Blitz

I close my eyes and channel my chakra, focusing it towards my lungs as I inhale. Upon exhaling, I release two small fireballs, one after another towards a dummy I assume you had set up earlier. As the fireballs leave my mouth, I shape them into spheres of compressed flames or as best as a "novice" can.

- Considering these are small fireballs and the more there are the weaker they will be, I'd say this one is adequate enough to light oil if you have any present in the field. Despite the division of power, it would be pretty interesting to throw oil into the sky, divide this technique into several fireballs (despite being D-rank) to ignite the falling oil. Then use the mud jutsu that covers the field. Then use the jutsu that creates rain clouds that produce oil. Use more fire and I think you have some interesting

- As far as countering goes, wind is always the answer to anything or really what you are adept at. Normally for beginner's, a wall would be an adequate defense. But as you learn more and get a grasp of how jutsu work (and partly because you get bored and want to try something new), you start experimenting with other techniques. For this technique, what would be interesting would be to utilize wind to channel the fire back by using a small wind to sort of guide the fire and possibly add to its power. But it would require precision and accuracy which I believe you can only achieves either through heightened senses or with the sharingan/bykugan. But for everyone else, I would like to use mud bullets towards the opponent. What results is either burning mud or hardened mud.

Note: I forgot to mention that when dealing with fire, the bigger it is, the more your vision is compromised though it works both ways as you opponent also won't be able to see. This get's easier if you possess heightened senses or chakra sensory as well as the Byakugan, Rinnegan, or Sharingan.

(Katon: Komakai Kaki) - Fire Release: Small Fire

After channeling my chakra, I focus on the chest area of the dummy ahead of me. I inhale as I draw in oxygen that then acts as fuel for my superheated chakra. As I exhale, I then spew out a small fireball that then begins to slowly burn the dummy until there is nothing left.

- This is good for lighting things on fire, in particular paper bombs or oil present in the area. It's what I call the "lighter on the go". Considering it's rather small size it is best used for igniting other jutsu rather than actually using it for combat reasons however, in a pinch, it can be thrown at an enemy to get him to drop his guard if he has you cornered or in a hold.

- A unique combo for this would be to create a gas cloud and igniting it with this jutsu. Well it's not so unique but it is practical considering most people would probably counter with a bigger jutsu. I wonder if our customs department would allow us to utilize gas in more creative ways like Kakashi did with lightning in NUNS but I believe that would fall under methane perhaps. Lightning rope on fire is also a nice detour especially if doused in oil or paper bombs.

(Katon no Jutsu) - Fire Release Technique

Standing midrange from each other, I run towards my opponent as I channel and focus my chakra throughout my body. Using the same concepts for creating fire from within yourself, I then apply it outwardly by using the oxygen surrounding me to act as fuel for the flames on my body. Of course using my chakra, it causes no harm to me (or I would hope so). As I approach my target, a badly made dummy, I then pivot my body from right to left, tuck my arms close to my body, and do a low leg sweep with my right leg.. The sweep, coupled with the fire present in my body, acts like a pseudo-knife when cutting through butter. As soon as that is done and I am facing my opponent again, I then lift my right leg into the air and drop it down forcefully like an axe and crush the dummy into pieces. In conjunction with the fire, it just destroys it into pieces and burns up like little frosting birthday cupcakes.

I'm hungry now. :(

- Considering we are just at D-Rank, there is sure to be a better fire technique in regards to a stream or projectiles. However, as far as using it on your body with taijutsu, you won't find many that are canon (if any at all). So using this strictly for taijutsu is a must though you would need to stay aware of your opponent and the environment. Why? While practical to use in close range fights, your opponent can exploit that weakness by utilizing either water to douse the flames or wind to increase the flames on your body and possibly char you to death. One thing to keep in mind is when to utilize the flames. Simply turning them up and using it for extended periods would seem ideal but it is a waste of a good technique. My guess is that by activating it at the right time like when punching or kicking, can cause a sort of "boost" to the strike though it won't increase it's damage. Considering it's a lower level technique, I would believe it doesn't require that much mental/physical effort and while not instantaneous, can still be pulled off pretty quickly.

- As far as counters other than water...I was thinking of employing a strong wind jutsu to drown out the fire but then I thought it would be badass to use a similar small wind to increase the flames on your opponent to burn them alive but considering it made of the the user's chakra, then it might have the opposite effect and make them even stronger. But I wonder, if you were to cover them in mud would it heat the mud and turn it into clay or would it just put out the flames? Regardless, I'll go with mud on this one as you can bind your opponent at the same time and add other jutsu with it to make it into a better combo like lightning. I would assume all mud has some water in it and by adding the lightning to the mix it would just electrocute them or to a small degree.

I'm glad someone remembered the dummy, I was getting tired of having to stand here and paint myself like a target. >_>

With your oil usages you really do need to be careful. Seeing as the timeframe works on a move by move basis (can change obviously) it means an opponent can use the oil to their own advantage, even if its recognising the oil and throwing an explosive tag at it. So while the concept of enhancing your fire with it is sound, just be sure to not subject yourself to possibly fuel your opponents move.
As a wind enthusiast, seeing "wind is the answer to everything has made me happy. Plus you just gave me an idea for a new CJ. xD

*Starts cooking a roast using all the dummies you've set on fire* Me too. o_o

Countering that last move would work well with the D rank gas jutsu we will get to. Just exhale it over them igniting theit whole body. You might singe your eyebrows off, but it will be worth it!

As for the mud, it depends on the quantity of both mud and fire. Too much mud would simply put the fire out because of the restricted oxygen, while slightly heating. Proportional amount of mud to fire is what would create the initial lava substance, which would harden overtime.

(Katon: Kaen Shuriken Ranbu ) - Fire Release: Blazing Shuriken Dance
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: The user will throw several shuriken infused with fire at the enemy and then, through a mental command, ignites them to cause extra damage.

This jutsu, while it can be considered a projectile, I decided to keep it separated from that category. The explanation explains basically everything and while this "mental command" cannot really be explained, we work with what we are given. Consider the jutsu like a fuse, with the more fire chakra imbued the further the shuriken will be able to travel before igniting, while a lesser amount means it ignites sooner. Of course during any RP fight you can just say "then with a mental command I ignite them" but this helps me understand it at least.
While like many fireballs, you can actually control the shuriken as you throw them, giving their own 'curve' so that the opponent has to deal with fireballs from many directions, rather than many fireballs from one direction. The thing with this is that it can technically be stopped with freeform counter kunais, though our RP doesn't allow that which is helpful.
