In the USA 2016 presidential election will a candidate's religious beliefs be a determining factor in your opinion?

I wouldn't care what religion the next president was as long as they did a good job and didn't **** up the country, but I feel that may not be the case for the rest of the nation. For some reason, the president has to strictly be Christian to get elected. Its sorta retarded.

The candidate could be a member of a cult which practices Voodoo and Cannibalism, it's still not as important as a candidate's track record, who donated to his/her campaign, and his/her policies.

I agree. I don't understand the need for a religious president, and I don't mind if the president is religious, but how religious is what determines my opinion of the candidate.

Presidential candidates discussing religion goes against one of the fundamental principles the nation was founded upon: separation of church and state.

True. I don't really want a president whos like "This is a Christian country and we'll make, ass backwards laws and decisions." but if they have good policies and a good track record, why shouldn't I vote for them?

Possibly true. I'm not really happy with any of the candidates really. None of them seem like leaders; they just look like actors/clowns. Bernie Sanders is probably the most honest candidate, but there's no way he will win. Unless something totally unexpected happens, Hillary will win the election.

Donald Trump is actually a threat right now, don't count him out.

Donald Trump is actually a treat right now, don't count him out.

Why are people even taking Trump seriously? Its like they haven't heard the things he's said or what he might do if he's elected as president.

"Lets get Mexico to build a wall to keep immigrants out of our country even though they're a crucial part of the U.S economy and also have Mexico pay for said wall."

What stupid shit is that?

He is popular but not electable. The US is a representative democracy, meaning that popular votes don't always win the election. The most recent instance was Bush vs Gore. Al Gore won the popular vote but Bush won the electoral vote.
Here's a challenge: try to find out who your state's electoral voters are. Chances are you won't be able to. No one could go to the polls and there would still be a president elected by the no name electoral college. Democracy at the federal level is an illusion.

It ain't to me, but the old farts that historically vote at high percentages care about religion a lot. So every candidate claims to be deeply religious and gives God thanks. Politics is a joke

Especially since the people you voted to represent you in Congress often are lobbied to steer a different direction, thanks to the ever-reliable Citizens United Act.

Yes because the United States is One Nation Under God, a godless candidate is unworthy to become President of the United States.

You do know that line wasn't added to the pledge until like the 1950s right? And on top of that, the nation was founded with the concept of Separation of church and state. Not only that, the founding fathers were deists.

"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
--John Adams
