*Shinta falls out of a nearby tree with a loud crash. He stands up, brushes himself off and makes his way towards Shikamuru, acting as if nothing has happened.*
Alright... so I'm supposed to be teaching you Doton. Let us start with you telling me what you know of Doton; it's strengths and weaknesses perhaps? Perhaps you could give me your opinion on the Earth element such as how you might use it in battle? (Try not to copy/paste answers from a wikia or something).
As a sidenote, at your current rank of Jounin, You can learn up to four (4) basic elements and up to A-rank jutsu in those elements. See theYou must be registered for see linksThread for more information. I'd advise you not to spam too much for the post count as by simply posting in training and making/participating in threads in the battle arena, should give you enough posts to learn up to s-rank in no time at all.
shikamaru pay attention to his sensei explanation and nod as sign of he understand it.*Shinta listens to his young students response with the utmost concentration in order to gain an understanding of the kind of person he was about to teach.*
Right, so you've actually got that a little backwards. Earth is in fact weak to lightning due to the shear destructive force that is lightning. However, Earth is strong against water as it is able to physically block and to some extent absorb the force of the water element.
So a quick revision:
- Fire is strong against Wind and weak to water;
- Wind is strong against Lightning and weak to fire;
- Lightning is strong against Earth and weak against wind;
- Earth is strong against water and weak against lightning, and finally;
- Water is strong against fire and weak against earth.
So lets put that in terms of out RP. If my opponent uses a B-rank earth jutsu against me I have a number of options to counter: I can use a b-rank fire jutsu (which is considered neutral to earth) to counter the earth, or I could use an A-rank water (Which is weak to earth) to counter the earth, or use a C-rank lightning (which is strong against earth) to counter the earth. Any of those counters would simply result in a stalemate between the jutsu.
If I wanted to overpower the same B-rank earth jutsu, I'd have to use one of the following: An A-rank jutsu that is considered neutral to earth (Fire or Wind); an S-rank Water jutsu (two ranks higher is enough to overpower the earth); or a B-rank or greater lightning jutsu (as lightning is strong against earth, the same ranked jutsu would overpower the earth and continue on).
Any questions on what I just explained?
shikamaru raise up his handThat is a good point, earth should be able to continue through the fire, smothering it out in the process. However, you need to remember that we are dealing with a point of anime logic and it reality it just works simply because it does work.
However, in the case of wind vs fire; assuming they are the same rank and power, you can think of it like the fire burns the earth completely until only smoke is left. Water is also a solid, in this case I mean tangent as in having a physical form but I get what you mean.
In the case of wind, it doesn't have a physical form but it can produce a physical force, enough to negate the force of an equal ranked water and even earth jutsu.
As we go through each jutsu, we can go more in depth into the results of said jutsu and another elemental jutsu clashing with it. Any of this make sense?
Right, so we may as well start with the some earth jutsu...
(Doton No Jutsu) - Earth Release Technique
Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defence
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Descripton: Creates small pillars of earth, small tools, and small shields of earth
Earth Release Technique: Is your most basic earth jutsu that allows you to manipulate earth around you to create some useful tools. To achieve this you must channel your earth chakra and direct it into the ground, concentrating it into the desired location, where you will use your chakra control to shape the earth into the intended shape.
For instance, if I wanted to create a small spike that erupts from the ground just in front of you, I would start by sending my chakra into the ground and concentrate on the mental image of what I'm after. Then, when I am ready, I would use my chakra to push up on a section of earth to cause the spike to lift up out of the ground.
*As Shinta explains how he would perform the jutsu, a small section of earth about the size of a baseball-bat with a tapered point at the top, erupts suddenly from the ground one metre in front of Shikamaru.*
So, give that a try and tell me why you think this jutsu is useful?
For the initial few jutsu, I'd like you to be as detailed as possible when describing what you're doing with your chakra and the effect you're creating from the jutsu. After we get into some of the c-rank jutsu, I'll probably ask you to stop RP-performing the jutsu, unless you otherwise want to.
Hmm, interesting use, but lets put some technical limits on that jutsu shall we? For one, the earth statue would only the colour and texture of the ground you create it from. Meaning from a distance, it would be pretty obvious that it is an earth statue of some sort. Seconde, a size-restriction... a chair in terms of how wide/deep the object it and nothing taller than the average person (1.7-ish meters).
Also, do you understand the format of the jutsu template? Rather, what range, chakra cost etc are referring to/mean?
"understood, now shall we move to the next tech"So by size restriction I mean more of a size limit. It's a D-rank jutsu that costs little chakra so obviously you can't create something the size of a Skyscraper. Instead you'd only be able to create something about as tall as you are for example. Does that make sense?
As for the ranges, the way I was taught was as follows: Short-range is 0-5 Meters, Mid-range is 6-15 Meters and Long range is anything greater than that.
"oh.. it seems this tech can turn rock into weapon"(Doton: Gansetsukon) - Earth Release: Rock Section Cane
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary/Offense
Range: Short (Mid on throw)
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: This technique allows the user to take a small chunk of rock and turn it into the shape of a staff. The user can then use it as a melee weapon or throw it with pinpoint accuracy at their opponent. A variation of this technique allows the user to create several staffs and launch them at the target, but with less accuracy.
So with this jutsu you simple pick up a rock and channel your earth chakra into it. You then use shape manipulation on the chakra in the rock, so lengthen it into the shape and size of a fighting staff or spear.
If used as a melee weapon it would of course only have the reach of short-range but if thrown, it can strike targets up to mid-range.
So, give it a try and tell me your thoughts on this jutsu; strengths/weaknesses, advantages/disadvantages and general usability in battle.
"OK understood"It's also a handy jutsu as, even though it is a D-rank, it is much stronger than even chakra infused kunai/swords etc.
In our RP, Ninja tools/weapons and Chakra infused ninja tools/weapons are always beaten by even something as simple as an e-rank jutsu offensive jutsu.
Moving on...
( Doton: Iwa Rendan ) - Earth Release: Rock Barrage
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short – Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: The user will concentrate their chakra into their arm and then release their chakra creating a ring of rocks that are then flung at the opponent.
A simple jutsu that will require you to apply elemental manipulation on your earth chakra, in order to actually create earth that will form in a ring around your arm. By your will you will suddenly pulse your chakra in order to send the rocks flying at your opponent.
Now if you could give me a response answering the same things you did for the previous jutsu please. ^^
Very good, very good. Guess we'll move onto C-rank jutsu now.
(Doton: Ganban Kyu) - Earth Release: Bedrock Coffin
Rank: C
Type: Offense
Range: Mid/Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the Rat hand seal, the user to control multiple sections of rock and move them around their opponent. The user then forms two gigantic sections that crush the opponent.
As well as what I usually get you to answer for jutsu, I want you to start trying to find pictures for the jutsu. You're best bet it to google them and if a page that says Narutopedia comes up, then you can use that... also, it means you can read a little more on the jutsu. Sometimes you can find a clip of the jutsu being performed on youtube as well if you'd like a better understanding of what the jutsu looks like...
Now onto teaching. You'll release your earth chakra (after performing the rat hand seal) into the ground and use it to suddenly push up two (or more) large sections of rock. You can then move these in a limited area to trap and then crush your opponent.
