See, and I would say Australian English is closer to British English though I'm not sure that's accurate.

Actually, English as a language is only associated with England; a place where the language was created in the Anglo-Saxon era. All other forms - Australian, American, South African etc - are considered dialects. All of them have some kind of phonetic and vocabulary variation that set them apart from English.
