I feel like it comes down to, Natsu's love for his guild and drive is the only thing that can kill someone with the curse. Think about it, Natsu's emotions got him and the guild this far, he doesn't doubt himself and keeps going. Maybe that's the theme he's going for. Fairy heart is litterally love and Natsu will be driven by love to kill Zeref and break his curse that way due to the outcome of the war?

I really enjoy Mavis x Zeref :(

Hiro made a great chapter.I didn't expect that.

I guess Zeref loved his live more than Mavis did?

I guess I need more time to get into depth of this and then I will post detailed review. Though it looked pretty good chapter to me, even if concept of love looked pretty childish to me.

Mavis probably dies cos zeref loved life more than she did I mean she didn't really care about life at that point if she wanted zeref to kill her
Oh yea did Mavis meet zeref before or after forming FT

Wouldn't they both die? Hmmm.

Talk about being forever alone. Id be mad too if I had gotten action for hundreds of years.
I think the reason only Mavis died, is because Zeref truly loved Mavis at that point, while Mavis simply loved Zeref as a companion. Simply put, Zeref appreciated her life more than she appreciated his life at that specific moment.

Now I'm especially confused with what Fairy Heart really is then. Is Mavis's physical body still able to cause damage? How much death did those two actually cause in that one embrace?

I always enjoyed Zeref's character, but this puts him right on top. Man, I'm getting the same feels for Zeref now as I had with Itachi when his true past was revealed.

Well an immortal person dying is in itself contradictory, hence the contradiction curse. So it's not weird that there would be something unusual about about her body. For instance the body might in itself still be 'immortal'.

Wow, that was sad.

Poor Zeref, poor Mavis.

I wonder if Mavis already knows that Natsu is Zeref's brother and will be the one to tell him.

Wow. That is potentially one of the best chapters of Fairy Tail I've ever read. I mean, I've always kind of enjoyed Fairy Tail, but have always felt like it's a little bit of a guilty pleasure, as I felt like it lacked the depth of other shounen manga of its ilk. However, this one chapter moved me more than any other so far and has tied the whole concept of the story together in a very neat way. I agree with what others are saying on this thread about how the whole idea of the Manga is that love is the one magic and it will ultimately be the thing that FT/Natsu needs to use to bring this story to an end and defeat Zeref.

One thing that intrigues me - People have been theorising for a while that Serena = Yuri. This chapter could very well help reinforce that theory if in fact, Yuri found out that it was Mavis that inadvertently killed his wife and became consumed with hatred. I reckon Zeref could have told him, as we know that he can be sadistic in how he plays his games, and he may have wanted to recruit Yuri for his empire. I know it said in Zero that he died, but they could have quite easily faked his death, before anyone starts on that trail of thought and Hiro could have written that in because he's only providing the readers with the same information that is written in the FT history books so far.

Anyway, not saying it's definite or anything, but this chapter has the potential to be setting it up that way.

I don't see how this is supposed to support the Yuri = Serena theory. That would mean that Yuri barely changed anything while everyone else became very old, including his own son, a son Mavis herself named. This would mean he was one of the 10 Wizard Saints for quite a while along with Warrod, who doesn't have any kind of animosity towards FT, while no one ever bothered to mention it. This would mean that Yuri would have defected to the side of the mage who thaught Mavis the magic that led to his wive's death, the same magic that she used to save Yuri himself and consequently led to her being cursed. Meaning without the magic there would be no Yuri, no Makarov and his future wive would probably be of no importance.

This is flawed on all sides. Especially because so far Zeref has never been a liar and Yuri knows from who Mavis learned the magic.

the contradiction is such that Mavis is still "alive" as a ghost, but Zeref can't see or hear or touch her, and she can only watch him, but not speak or touch or help him, hell for him.
Also the important point is why did Mavis die whether because Zeref's loved her more or his curse was more powerful as he had it longer?

Zeref wants to start a war so that one day Natsu and co will be able to kill him and has a disconcerted state of mind.

Also Hiro wanted FT to be light hearted than Rave after Tartaros it doesn't seem so.
Mavis died because Zeref's love towards her is strong that it even took a life of an immortal person. That is what I get from this chapter.

I am...without words.
I am with you ^^

Adding to that also I doubt Zeref would let someone like Yuriy=God Serena without any reason in his Empire. Also seems like none of the spriggans are any fools who would let a traitor do as he wants. If I think anyone that is going to desert Albareth and going to aide Ishgar is Brandish. I don't knew how but I kinda get that feeling.

Omg.....Just seeing Mavis and Zeref kiss made me WoW. Now I am visualizing just how much I would have freaked out if it was NaLu. Mashima please don't use black ink colour next time. First Gajeel x levy(CPR) and now Zeref x Mavis. Go mahima, Go!!

One thing is certain though... Mavis is not dead. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to project her astral self nor would there be any point in keeping her body "frozen".
