He has lost his appeal at this point.Hollow character
How can someone be hollow for not being a Mary sue? You probably don't even understand his character at all, not surprised since you haven't seen the movie yet, but if all you have done is read spoilers. Then it's nothing that can't be fixed in an hour and thirty minutes :lol
this thread won't change anybody's opinion on Bolt. His fans will still make him out to be a prodigy despite the obvious fact that he cheated through a competition and others will still disagree.
You're right, the movie will.
You don't get it ... He did cheat, yes, but that's because he's a shinobi who never honed his own skills.
> He never trained (His sensei and two team mates constantly belittle him for this aspect of his character, when he finally peaked in interest in wanting training, they called it a miracle).
> He was never interested in training (read above)
> He came this far without being serious
> He found shortcuts instead of training hard
> Even while being trained under Sasuke, he still didn't take it seriously.
Albeit while compared to everyone else, either being labeled as a Prodigy or not, it doesn't change the fact that without hard work, genius can be surpassed.
I'll show by taking a reference from the movie, these topics are easier to understand
after someone watches it. Right now you have a self interpreted view on Boruto is based on him being a Prodigy, and due to the fact of him cheating (and not understanding why, you cloud the interpretation). What's funny enough the factors of him cheating are pretty interesting too, the scientist introduces him to the device, and constantly tries to guide him to use it, even making Boruto use it as a marketing scheme for him to show the entire world through the exams, and Boruto's constantly undying wish to gain his father's acknowledgement.
Naruto compares Boruto to Sasuke, although he takes it back afterwards. This is the scene where Sasuke comes back from his mission. After looking for Naruto at his house and meeting Boruto there for the first time, he goes to the Hokage’s office. After talking a little about Sasuke’s findings on his mission, Sasuke gives Naruto his old pre-shippuden jacket, saying he found it lying in the street outside his house (Boruto threw it out the window out of anger). He tells Naruto that he ran into his son, saying they’re very alike. Naruto denies this, saying if anything Boruto is more like Sasuke. Sasuke looks surprised at this, but then Naruto takes it back. He looks sorrowfully at his beat-up jacket, saying “no, even your clothes were more wrecked than his are.”
…This doesn’t make sense out of the context of the movie. Basically, one of the themes deals with the struggle of what part technology plays in a ninja world, and what part ninjutsu plays in a technologically progressing world. It’s the whole ‘old vs new’ struggle that comes with modernization. For example, kids are playing video games instead of training. This debate is highlighted by the new armgear technology that plays an important part in the movie. Naruto bans the use of this gear in the chunin exams at the beginning of the movie, saying that true ninja need to discover what it means to be a ninja through hard work and sweat, not taking shortcuts using technology. Boruto later uses it to cheat in the chunin exams, which leads Naruto to disqualify Boruto, even stripping him of being a ninja. Naruto and Sasuke even cast a ‘bet’ on what ‘being a ninja’ means in the modern times, with Naruto thinking the fundamentals of being a ninja are changing, and Sasuke thinking they’re the same as in their childhood.
Going back to the scene in question where Naruto and Sasuke are talking, Naruto is referring to the fact that Boruto is a genius like Sasuke (and unlike himself). However, the reason he takes it back is because unlike Sasuke, Boruto is lazy and doesn’t try hard or train (Konohamaru and Sarada also say this in other scenes). This is what he means by saying ‘unlike you (Sasuke), his clothes aren’t tattered’. If you reword it, he acknowledges the fact that even though Sasuke is naturally gifted, he always put the effort in to get to where he is today.
