Found this in the tumblr tags. Enjoy or not.

"Momoshiki's naming is based on japanese myth as typical for kishi. In this case, momoshiki is named after momotaro the peach boy, a kid sent from heaven to a childless couple; he later goes on to an entire island of onis with a pheasant, a dog and a monkey and kicks the living crap out of all the onis. Same with Kinshiki- he's named after Kintaro, "golden boy", who is the son of some mountain witch and a dragon, who as a child wrestled bears and as an adult was a retainer of minamoto yorimitsu"

And itachi's name translates to "sologod". 100% legit

Ot: a lot of concepts jutsus and characters are based on Japanese folk culture that kishi found so im not surprised momoshiki was based on it too which is one of the things that I enjoy about his manga. There's something different when a person uses a myth. Hard to explain but it's just cooler to have a character based on old culture and myths

Yeah. Kishi is good with putting mythology in his show.

KinGin are based on Gold Horn and Silver Horn of Journey to the West.

One of the tailed beasts is named Son Goku isn't he? Which came from DB, but was baded off of the character Son WUkong in Journey to the West.

Hiruzen's staff when fighting Oro and being connected to monkeys, also based on JTTW.

And a few more I think. Though JttW was Chinese folklore.

Amaterasu is the wolf from okami

Amaterasu is named after the goddess Amaterasu-kami. Lord of Takamegahara (land where gods reside), God of the sun and universe who according to legend is the mother of the Japanese ppl

Here's another Japanese mythology fact.

Monosouki is a chocolate demon that kills people when they go to use the bathroom.

Amenominakanushi no Kami and other five(Kotoamatsukami) is above Amaterasu no Kami

Amenominakanushi is the central master

Amenominakanushi (天御中主 "All-Father of the Originating Hub", or 天之御中主神 "Heavenly Ancestral God of the Originating Heart of the Universe") is, according to the Kojiki,[1] the first kami, and the source of the universe according to Shintoism.[2] In mythology he is described as a "god who came into being alone" (hitorigami), the first of the zōka sanshin ("three kami of creation"), and one of the five kotoamatsukami ("distinguished heavenly gods").

I found Japanese myth is very interesting.

Give my thread a look through, if you want other things that Kishi drew inspiration from, when crafting the Narutoverse.
