ZAGREB, Croatia - A month ago, a mother and father identified a body in a morgue as their daughter's. She was buried and mourned ? only to be found alive this week.

Tea Buric, 39, was located when police showed up at an apartment in the southern city of Split because of domestic violence.

Buric was disoriented and lacked documents of identification, so police checked her fingerprints and discovered she had been identified by her family as dead.

The body found floating in the Split harbour on April 15 turned out to be that of a 44-year-old woman who had disappeared earlier that month, Split police said.

Police spokeswoman Marina Kraljevic-Gudelj said in an interview on Thursday that police didn't use DNA to identify the well-preserved corpse because four relatives, including the parents, had identified it.

Local experts also said the DNA procedure, considered expensive in Croatia, is generally only used if a corpse cannot be identified or appears to have been the victim of a crime.

The parents of Buric and the 44-year-old deceased woman declined to discuss the case.

It sais: In great sadness and pain we are noticing our friends and acquaintances that on 14.IV.2010., after long sickness, died TEA BURIĆ
---------------------------------------------------------------------
We will say our farewells to our beloved deceased in front of morgue on Lovrinac, 17.IV.2010. in 13.15h, and funeral will be held on local graveyard in Drvenik in 16h.
Then there is list of mourners...
Her noble character will remain in our permanent memories.
Rest in peace.

There's been cases like these where people were asked to identify the dead body and because of the grief of their supposedly "dead" relative, they say that that's him/her. It's psychological thing: They'll be thinking "If I'm asked to identify a body in the morgue then it must be someone I know". The brain tricks the people to think that its really their daughter/son. Common features on the body won't hurt the illusion either. My advice is to check for DNA sample, just in case.

Just because they called you to the morgue it does not mean a loved one will be there. That is why you expect nothing until you get there, whatever place or goal you have in mind.

You are unable to just walk to a morgue and not feel that there is a slight chance that this person that you might see on a table is your closest friend, your family member, or a complete stranger. Human emotions always give in to the worst possible situation if it's something drastic like a death.

Either way, the only way to be able to ID a body is if your related to them, have responsibility over them, or if your the last person that could ID him (Least likely of the possibilities).
