If anything the Gaiden just brought a bit of life back to NB. Things were a little stale if you ask me, other than that..

It had some entertaining panels but overall it was like watching a Bolivian soap opera where the main characters are mutants with powers.

Even though I always knew Sakura was the mom, I never really felt that panels were being wasted on the misconception of Karin being the mom (like some SK fans did), because I saw all this progression of plot as an opportunity to develop SS. But sadly, Kishi didn't avail the opportunity. I also didn't really enjoy The Last, but seeing it as a development to NH, I came to like it. Similarly, Gaiden also wasn't that thrilling but then it should've better focused on the SS stuff. Overall, Gaiden wasn't a satisfying spin off.
