Konan implied the only reason Nagato died was because of he was low on chakra at the moment. Obito was about to die anyways.

Rinne Tensei itself doesn't kill the user.

Because he had the Ghedo Mazo in him at first and Black Zetzu keeping him alive in order to collect the Rinnegan for Madara and the other half of the Kyuubi.
