I know trailers usually tend to get alot of people hype for marketing purposes like when Naruto was on the verge of death by the hand of Toneri or Blood Prison for reference however you have to take another perspective that unlike all the movies we've had; up until now this movie is currently the final remaining chapter canonically in the story.
I can see this as possibility simply because:
In this scene it may be vary from the beginning or the end of the movie. This might happen during the set-up according to the summary when it goes for the following quote: "Naruto, who was occupied by that and turned his back, disappears with a jutsu fired by Momoshiki. He leaves Boruto a smile…"
The image I labeled doesn't seem to describe the action in the summary quote. Here's what it appears to look like.
Naruto is on the ground who's on the verge of death while giving a smile asking Sasuke with a favor.
In the Quote it said that Naruto was occupied on something and turn his back seemingly willing to enter the enemy hand into the dimension and give a smile to Bolt.
There's a huge distinguish between the two so like I said this is just a speculation so anything with that image can be vary within the movie. However if I have to give my 2 cents on this, then it's possible that by the end of the movie, both Naruto and Sasuke couldn't hold out against that final villain and there are time when Sasuke is unable to save Naruto.
Or Perhaps when Naruto makes his sacrifice to save Bolt. Then Sasuke and everyone worked together to defeat the villain and Boruto will be the one to deliver the final attack.
In the end Naruto will make out as a Legend who had to go through hardships from suffering losing comrades in arm, his sensei, and his family and somehow endured the pain and overcoming the destiny by saving the others from falling into the darkness, saved the village, stopped the War from Kaguya, Madara&Obito and lastly saved his best friend. Finally a hero becoming a Hokage.
Naruto will pass on his torch, the Will of Fire to Boruto entrusting his son legacy and his souls finally Rest in Peace.
That is the tale Of Naruto Uzumaki
I can see this as possibility simply because:
- Kishimoto had stated in the interview that he will no longer continue working the Naruto series after finishing the Boruto and the main plot that left unanswered to many viewers.
One Could simply argue that Naruto will continue to go down the path of GT however people should realize that Kishimoto is getting an age of retirement so of course he simply wanted to work other manga series which it had been announced that for countless time. If anyone is milking it, it's none other than Studio Pierrot and one of the reason why we have fillers right now...
- Boruto is the name of the series after Naruto. Which means it mainly centered around the new era and Boruto is the main star of the show. Naruto is no longer a Main Protagonist, he's now just part of the main cast. Naruto can be tribute to Jiraiya.
If we stick to the main theme of this series, it is that New Generation always surpass the previous one. Even in the Boruto promo, it has been constantly hinting that Boruto will surpass Naruto in terms of achievement who will overcome the legend. When we follow context of the story, the Hokage always die passing on the new leaf.
