The manga poor art style is what pushes people away from it. I find it stupid to judge a manga by the art style honestly, cause after all you're there to read the story. If HxH was a book I would've read that shit even without pictures.............
It's manga so the art is just as important as the story as what would be the point if all that matters is the story might as well right a book instead
Now that's not to say togashi doesn't have skill just that the art is a big part and if somebody is put of due to a certain art direction then they're less likely to read it

I don not hate it but I consider it extremely overhyped, first because of the huge hiatus that Togashi takes but other than that, I do not consider it such a great story, yes it is indeed original at certain fields, but it's not the kind of originality that will lead me to tell OHMYGAWD but more like "hmm, interesting". Other than that, 2 things I really hate is the transitions from one arc to another. I feel like, once a certain arc ends and certain characters do their parts, they immediately get wiped from the face of the Earth, till they return at some point later, my point is that it happens very abruptly. A second trait I hate is how meaningless human life is there. There is a difference between being indifferent or emotional or acting all happy like nothing happened. Characters die there without anyone giving them so much as a moment to think of them. Also, many people say how they loved the chimera arc, while it had some interesting characters like Meruem and his guards, I found the vast majority of the newly introduced very one dimensional like that cheetah running all over the place.

Long story short, I don't hate the story, I hate all this hype it gets.

I don't hate it actually it's One of my favourite anime so far. I think the only problem people have with HxH is the constant breaks if we didn't have that problem it would easily be in the big 3

I think the manga sales dropped after 2013 because the Hunter x Hunter anime schedule was switched to like 1:00 am on Tuesday nights in Japan. Like I don't think anyone would stay up that long, especially on a school day.

Keep watching, Told my brother to watch it, n!gga is now addicted.

After Yorknew arc you might have a new favorite anime.
I was not able to watch it last night but i just started and finished episode 1 and holy jesus, it's really amazing.

The art looks good, Gon Leorio and Kurapika are great characters so far, the soundtrack are superb so far (It's really rare for me to stop at the opening/ending before going to the episode) [the ending sounds like parasyte's opening which is awesome].

The exams reminded me of the chunnin exams of naruto. Looking forward for more!

I thought HxH was pure hype but i'm feeling the anime, loving it! :flowers

Why was I so naive! Now onto the 2nd episode :bdpf:

Oh, Killua is awesome. You'll see him in episode 3 :)

Yorknew city starts at episode 37. It's always fun hearing people's reaction on your fav. series. I recommend you make a thread about your thought on HxH (good or bad) once you're finished watching the anime completely.

Well I don't want to get into this argument too deeply but this is a bit weak argument.

1.Many GOAT tier manga have weaker art as compared to many flashier ones that doesn't reduce their place in the history of manga.

a. Osamu Tezuka the father of modern manga had a weak artstyle if you compare it to many modern authors but that doesn't limit Adolf ni Tsugu, Buddha, Metropolis, Black Jack or MW form the great manga.
His animation from 1st person perspective is a thing of imagination only for many.

b.Shigeru Mizuki and Kazuo Umezu the savants of horror genres artwork is weaker than many horror mangaka but that doesn't make their work less appealing or less path breaking. GeGege no Kitaro, Akuma kun or Kami no Hidari-te Akuma no Migi-te or Fourteen are better than most horror manga.

c. One: In modern times One, his artwork is weak but his stories and paneling are of the highest order and emotions he creates despite writing comedy is amazing

2.As for Togashi and HxH:-
a. Artwork might be weak but he redraws it for the tankobon also please check out the last nine chapters it has amazing artwork.
b.His character design are simply magnificent even with those minor details and even for the minor characters for example the Koala who contemplates the cycle of hate and life and his weakness. Emphasis to most minor details is given.c.Plot development Just terrific never redundant So much info is provided towards lore, so much effort given to maintain consistency.
See for example the time skip that occurred was so silent if you didn't pay attention you missed it.
Attention to detail is mind blowing.
d. Character development: Well this is his strongest suit, each and every character is given importance and he ensures they'll leave a mark on you. Again for example the koala who speaks with kite explaining that he is asking for forgiveness for himself.
Or Gyro only one chapter but yet he is remembered.
It's just best amongst best except Gintama none come closer in shonen.

For Togashi in general I implore you to read some of his older works like level E or Ten de showaru Cupid, both have great artwork, just because he doesn't draw regularly doesn't take away is level of art. I agree it's not on Miura or Inoue or Murata or Kazushi level but good enough.

3. The difference between a child's picture book and manga is it's cohesive and a good plot without it manga will never be good. Inverse is not always true thousands of manga with amazing artwork and shallow stories are released every year.

I agree HxH is in no way perfect but it is an amazing shounen.
It's not a weak argument, it's not even an argument at all, it's plain truth. It's not something up for debate. You can not deny this. Sorry, but if you do not even understand that, you should not be involving yourself into conversations like these. Then I'm really going to laugh at the fact that you are considering that the reason some people don't like HxH is because of its supposed intellectual level, but then you are going to deny the absolute fact that manga are first and foremost a visual medium. You, and no doubt many others, might consider plot more important, but that does not change the inherent objective nature of the medium that is manga.

The first two examples you just used are probably not even correct ones. I'm not very well versed in the history of how manga were received, but art is, like everything, subjugated to trends and evolves. At modern day standards the series of those first two examples might be considered weak, but how do you know that was the case when they still aired decades ago? If you watch the original Star Wars, their special effects are horrible, but at the time they appeared they were considered the most amazing effects ever. It's very well possible that over 50 years they say of the series that are now considered to have the best art, that they suck. I can really imagine something like "lol, manga in black and white, we have them all in color". On top of that the amount of manga series was highly likely far more limited a few decades ago than it is now.

So unless you somehow are very well versed in how their artwork was received during their own time, I'm assuming you based your statements seen after modern day standards considering you said "modern day authors", which is incorrect. You invalidated your own statement then and there. Do not compare the art of modern day authors with that of decades ago. What you just did was comparing the original Star Wars effects with those of the modern Star Wars.

And about the third one, I only read his One-Punch man, but he has amazing artwork. He just seems to intentionally play around with how he wants to make things appear. I find it funny though how you then say his stories are of the highest order considering OPM doesn't have a story, that's really one huge gag on the entire hero-genre. Hilarious as hell, but in terms of plot? On top of that the main reason as why that series works is because of its art as he spends an enormous amount of time to make huge panels with nothing but art in them. Seriously if I would have to give one example of a series where "art" is predominant, it's that one. I can't say anything of his other series though.

Fact is a fact. A manga is a visual medium. Yes plot is important, I'm also not interested in only reading series that have good art, but no story. It's always a balance between the two, but that does not take away the fact - and that's not an argument - that manga are a visual medium and that someone saying he doesn't like a series because of its artwork, is a very solid reason to not like it. That was my point. A good manga has both, but that does not take away that the art is what makes a manga a manga. It's the same principle of movies.

And I never said I disliked his art. I simply dislike the series. My point was simply that saying you don't like the series because of its art is a genuine reason because it's a manga, a visual medium. That's what makes it a manga.
