Aiming a rasengan at ones head band is trying to kill somebody.so based on your statement he was dead serious.

Sasuke was the better shinobi. Thats it.

Some people said he just wanted to prove sasuke wrong
Naruto would've
bested on Sasuke.
Only Naruto didn't want
to kill Sasuke, I'm not even
sure that he wanted to beat him
that hard... Why would he go for the
headband instead of the chest or the rest
of the body? In the beginning or the battle, (The
one back in Konoha) Sasuke said that he didn't need
to wear a headband because Naruto wouldn't land a single
blow on his forehead. I think that maybe Naruto hit his forehead
just to prove Sasuke wrong. You know, a mental defeat.

ok he was serious but lets not act as if naruto was trying to kill him. i will admit at that point in time sasuke was the more skilled fighter. that being said naruto was not that much weaker. the fight could have still gone either way if the intent was to kill on both ends. naruto losing to sasuke was due to his lack of intent to kill sasuke. the whole point of the missions was to bring sasuke back. naruto never had intent to kill from the start and that was sasuke's only motive. holding back against an uchiha is why he lost. thats not to say he would win if he had killing intent, thats a whole different story. but the reason why he lost was because he held back.

Sasuke was using full power to kill him, naruto was using full power to defeat him.
There goals where different, but they both fought at 100% power, at least without full power kyuubi

I think naruto lost simply because of experience,

A- sasuke just recently before the fight he gained his curse seal lvl2, along with unlocking his 3rd tomoe sharigan during.

B- Naruto was reluctant to fight sasuke at full strength untill kurama stepped in, also kurama had to save naruto unlocking his chakra cloak.

Sasuke's goal was to awaken his mangekyo (even tho he didnt know what it was yet)

hmmmm well i actually agree when i think about this. i retract my previous comment. intent does not equal effort. i can agree with that. so honestly with that said i have no base argument to uphold that he lost by holding back. i already said sasuke was the more skilled fighter, so with that said it can be the only reason he won. hmmm i guess i was wrong

Sasuke initially claimed that Naruto wouldn't even scratch his headband or forehead or something. I think his Rasengan was only powered enough to actually scratch the Headband. Sasuke went for the kill cause he wanted to gain the Mangekyou, whilst Naruto wanted to scratch him, that's why he lost (He didn't actually cause he scratched him).

Naruto would have lost twice before the Final Rasengan, and Chidori clashed if the Kyuubi didn't save him.

1)Sasuke stabs a Chidori right through Naruto.

The Kyuubi heals it in seconds, and powers Naruto up.

2)Sasuke beats Naruto to the point where he can't even move, and Naruto himself thinks Sasuke won.

Then the Kyuubi powers Naruto up even more.

Notice how after Sasuke hit Naruto with Chidori,he noted on Naruto's condition, about how can no longer fight, and rightfully thinks he won, then the Kyuubi heals him + powers Naruto up.

Then later Naruto himself notes on his condition thinking Sasuke won, then the Kyuubi powers him up.

Plot, what kind of story would we have if the manga ended there with Naruto stopping Sasuke

Naruto was serious enought to threaten breaking Sasuke's arms and legs so I think he was definitely fighting full force. I'm not a Sasuke fan but he deserved to win that fight. He was stronger and much more skilled than Naruto through the majority of the series and he fought way too hard to avenge his clan to fail.

The manga's theme is about "hard work over talent" so Naruto losing to come back later and win was necessary anyways.

Weak excuse. Sasuke outclassed Naruto. The Kyuubi stepped in multiple times to help Naruto, and he still lost.

well i wouldnt say outclassed. naruto brought his A game. but sasuke pulled it off with max difficulty you atleast gotta say. but sasuke was better end of story

but on a different note would you say they were both at least at jonin levels during that fight? i saw a jonin level fight. would you agree or disagree.

Jonin match for sure. They both knew plenty of Jonin level jutsus by that time and had powerhouse levels of chakra when compared to even a lot of adults.
