I think the hidden leaf village would not have been destroyed had kakashi been hokage at the time of pein's invasion.

My reasoning is very simple, reading through those chapters i realized that when pain found out naruto wasnt in leaf and instead he was training in mount myobokuzan, pein decided to leave the hidden leaf, one of the anbu noticed this too and told tsunade they should let him go, but then tsunade started talking and scolding a guy with a god complex, this guy with a god complex got mad and decided to show pain to the leaf. Why? because tsunade couldnt keep her mouth shut while pein was leaving.

What do you think kakashi would have done had he been in tsunade's position? i can bet that kakashi would have been smart enough to let pein go without provoking him. That's all there's to it. Even if kakashi didnt have the power to heal, he wouldnt have needed such power because the destruction of the hidden leaf would have never occured had he been hokage.

by that time pein hadnt decided to leave, pein was planning on destroying the leaf until he found naruto, kakashi did the right thing when he confronted him because he would have continied destroying the leaf, but when pein found out naruto wasnt around he decided to leave but tsunade kept on prolonging an unnessary conversation that led to the destruction of the hidden leaf.

Kakashi wasn't going to stop pain or save the village. What dose the hokage have anything to do with stopping pain. So he needs a title to stop pain?

I see your point but the village biggest priority at that time was to protect the jinchuriki. Also when you think about it, pain would've destroyed konoha anyway, let's assume he went to the frog mount, and he he fought naruto there and all, the fight would've ended with pain immobilizing naruto with the black rods. Hinata wouldn't had jumped in the battle which means naruto wouldn't unleash the kyuubi out of anger. Lol
