As we know madara is a descendant of indra and hashirama a descendant of ashura and they were meant to fight to death.
But why madara always seem to lose to hashirama in the past?
The reason is very simple, the descendants of indra have the sharingan which is a less powerful version of the sharinnegan of the juubi while hashirama inherited the wood style and senjutsu which are techniques of the same level of the juubi.
So in conclusion madara always lost because his sharingan/MS is a degraded version of the juubi eye while the wood style was still wood style with or without the juubi for hashirama, there's a reason why hashirama could use the wood dragon which is a technique of the holy tree, the techniques of hashirama were at a smaller scale but the complexity of the jutsu stayed the same so it's only logical the one with the powers closer to the juubi wins.
Note:I am not a madara fanboy, i just thought this made sense.
