The part I don't understand is that why he was asking Sasuke how he survived. Why would you ask someone how they survived if you've seen through his genjutsu

Zexion literally explained it to you several times. Deidara pretended he got caught in genjutsu so Sasuke would fall for his clone feint. How do you not get it?

Don't you see the Raiton on Sasuke's body when Deidara asked that? Raiton > Doton. He could have easily tanked the bombs by neutralizing it as much as possible with his Raiton on the same principle like he negated the Nano-bombs with his Raiton.

I'm not saying how he survived the bombs. I think I remember Sasuke using chidori nagashi to nullify the bombs.
What I'm saying is that Deidara saw an illusion of Sasuke dying because of the nano bombs. Deidara even asked how he survived when he saw him dying.

Except no as I already countered that, it wasn't genjutsu it was a legit snake that was taken down

Gonna have to call BS on that as the sharingans present on the following page of the scan I posted would point to it being Genjutsu also that statement only proves that him being punched wasn't a part of an illusion not that everything that took place beforehand wasn't one

Edit: Actually you may be right , as they're falling Kishi makes a point to show that Deidara looks Sasuke in the eyes, but Deidara closes the right eye and looks with his with his trained left one:

IMO the Sharingans kishi puts here soon after indicate Deidara's eyes being bested,similar to his eyes being bested when he faces itachi

It showed the eyes because in the end Deidara was beaten by a sharingan user which is what he didn't want....Also pretty sure the eyes are Sasuke trying to put him under a genjutsu but yes you're right Deidara saw through it which is why he states "This isnt an illusion"
