What? Its basic human nature to defend your life, cop or not. If you look out your window and see someone regardless of age coming up on you with a "gun" you're going to defend your life first. Only thing this cop could do was pull his gun, which he'd probably already been holding as the report said that someone was carrying a gun.
Kid was uneducated and parents were idiots. They deserve no pity
Actually this cop was expelled from his previous place of work for misconduct. Putting that aside, the person who called 911 even said that it might be a toy gun but seeing as the police doesn't care who they shoot, they ignored that. If you are afraid at the very thought or sound of danger don't be a law enforcement officer who has to put his life on the line. Dont want to live like that? Resign as a cop. How was the kid uneducated? For playing with the gun?

I mean granted it isn't smart to go around with a pellet gun, but it was just some kid who didn't know any better.
Too much force was used. If this kid was i dare say another tone perhaps more caution would have been used.

Usually I would agree and to an extent I do agree. Should he have been punished by law? Possibly, was this manslaughter, possibly. Of course this is a child so I want to throw every book available at him.

However this happened because a child was outside, unsupervised with a weapon, not a serious weapon but one that could, if it can blow the head off a squirrel, kill a small child. The officer, a rookie, arrived on the scene, the boy took an aggressive stance, pointing the gun at him, even as the officer moved away from the car. The boy thought it was a game because he was a baby and didn't understand the threat, people seem to be under the delusion recently that children think like adults, they don't. The officer panicked and fired.

If the boy had not been allowed to have a weapon and had not been unsupervised, if he did not know how to act like a little gang member, then none of this would have happened. Its not the boys fault, its partially the police officers fault and is very much the parents fault, the only innocent here was the boy.

The reason why the officer shot to kill escapes me, they shouldn't put guns in the hands of men who obviously do not have the mental capacity to use them.
@bold I thought it was a pellet rifle, not a pistol. At worst it would make a small child bleed. (unless it was an eye shot)

They could have just tazed the kid, would have been the best option, or even shoot not to kill.

And yes that might have been part of it.

There is no excuse for killing a 12 year old child for playing with a toy gun which many of us adults have tried when we were older. They literally didn't give him anytime and put a bullet in his body. Now the city has the nerve to say he caused his death.
I have watched the video back a couple of times and I keep going in circles with it. I didn't see what happened clearly before. I thought the officer walked around the side of the car but her doesn't he literally gets out of his car and fires, he completely panicked, I doubt he even had time to realise the age or the gun of his victim. I would call this manslaughter but Its one of those difficult situations. Officers fire on the spot when they see a weapon because otherwise they get shot themselves. It was a tragedy but I am still not sure if it was a crime.

For walking up to a cop car with a gun in his hands Lmfao parents probably let him do whatever he pleased. Misconduct? as in misbehaving? Nothing to do with the matter at hand. Oh really? Last I checked "Always make sure if its a child threatening human life that he's the top priority" isn't a thing.my autistic brother knows not to walk up to police officers with a gun in his hands, its self defense.

I agree with the first half. It really isn't smart to just let a kid go off with a pellet gun.

However a the second part is stupid as hell. If I walked up on you with a super soaker I don't deserve a face full of lead

If your first instinct is to shoot a 12year old kid because you think he might pose a danger without any real solid proof then you shouldn't be a police officer. Another black live lost.
He had a gun on his hand, it has nothing to do with anything else. The cops were called that someone had a gun and was pointing it at people. Honestly, why is a 12 year old boy playing with a pellet gun in the first place? There's no way people will know if his gun is real or fake from a distance.

The blame is on the shoulders of more than one party. A kid shouldn't be holding a pellet gun around and playing with it. the parents shouldn't be letting their child go or do whatever he wishes without supervision. And the cop shouldn't' have aimed for the kill. Rookie or not, what he did without thinking twice caused a calamity eventually.

Cop reacted wrongly. Kid was not taking the situation seriously. Results in bad stuff. The kid did not need to be alone in the park in the first place.

Who the hell let's their kid have a pellet gun in public? On the box it says to have parental supervision when using it if you are a kid. :|

Alright 1st thing he didn't. Approach the car the cops rolled right up on him got out in a 2 sec moment and shot him dead

Not enough warning to say drop the gun to a kid the dumb dispatcher never informed the police that the gun could be fake

As the caller who is called them said he isn't sure but the gun could be fake

Also not many people were around all they had to do was pull there car nearby and either shout form their car or get out behind their car at a distance and tell him to put the weapon down

Also his older sister is the one who let him use it not the parents she had it first

What OP failed to report was that the boy was 'playing with a gun' by pretending to ambush people around the locality and the Police Officer came after there was a 911 call.
