This is pretty much just off the top of my head, but I have read most of the OP theory about everything being tied to the moon, but doesn't it all tying back to Atlantis seem a bit more plausible? I mean ancient civilization lost in history with two of the ancient weapons centering around the ocean, with Posiedon being a mermaid and the legendary ship builders being passed down through Tom's lineage (a fishman)

Atlantis was supposedly a great civilization with highly advanced technology just like the lost civilization described in the polyglyphs and Raftel could possibly be the last stronghold those of Atlantis had left where they could get away from their enemies and record the world's truth.

Also, the moon can still tie in seeing how the moon controls tides (ties back into OP's ocean theme)

Anyway what do u think?

and then we'd have all water based jutsus and things would start to feel a little predictable and 'done before'.
Pessimism? :|
World is 90% water. Control the ocean and u control the world.

Besides it not like the weapons only have water powers. Posiedon is a given but I doubt pluton shoots water

It seems plausible to be honest. But so many fictional stories incorporate Atlantis now
that it would just feel really unoriginal and possibly even a let down for the secret civilization
to be that.

No, not pessimism. Just my honest opinion.

At best i could have seen the sense in the moon or a jutsu from the moon being used to release a powerful weapon or jutsu underneath the ocean and thats about it. But other than that it would be too much water based fighting for it to be enjoyable if it had all been based from the oceans.

The fact that Hamuras lineage were on the moon also leans in favour of Kaguya being from another world altogether. Rather than everything being rooted on or within the earth.

This is a war that is going to encompass the entire world your best bet is believing that the majority is going to be over water. Also I think u r getting the wrong idea.

I am simply speaking about history (What happened in the past). I am doubtful Luffy is the type to use the ancient weapons at all. :|
Atlantis has already been done (fishman island)
Underwater=\=Atlantis :sweat:

Fishman Island is based more on the legend of Urashima Taro
