大丈夫 is “to be alright”, “okay”, “safe”, “fine”.
When Naruto says 「あんなやつら、片手で大丈夫だってばよ」, he literally says, “ For such guys, with one arm, it’s fine/alright ‘ttebayo.”
But the meaning here matches better that he’s implying that he can handle his business with just one arm, so what I have is “enough”.

剣山 is like a pin-holder, the kind where it’s a base with needles/long things standing upwards like blades of grass that you stick flowers into.
Imagine a pincushion filled with pins, basically.
*我龍 is “Garyo” His name is made of kanjifrom Self/Obstinate+Dragon.
He is the leader of 龍波武装同盟 , which is the Ryuuha Busou Doumei = Dragon Wave Weapon Alliance.
More about this later.
His group name was mentioned in the cover page of the novel, but it hasn’t been fleshed out in this part of the book yet.

一年 can also colloquially mean “ Some time ago” instead of “One year”, but I left it literally because it probably means to include the mini-time skip of 699 where the village is being rebuilt, funeral services, Sasuke’s departure, etc.

Sai means to say that just because the last war ended, it doesn’t nessisarily mean that humanity’s conflicts were solved/ there’ no more conflict to be had.

It’s all from one hand, the raw actually does mean that Naruto came up with a new way to do his jutsu…crossing his fingers with one hand. o__o’;;~~ 結び方 is literally “to tie a knot”or “means of union/end”, which I take has to do with fingers being crossed on the same hand.

There’s not really a designated direct translation of swear words…you kinda just end up with different levels of vulgarity to say “You”. So…you can pick your own lol~
Originally, Naruto’s said “Teme”, which is pretty offensive and rude (but it’s normal for him when he gets riled up in the anime/manga)

氷遁・地鎖連氷 was given this furigana: ひょうとん:じされんひょう!
Earth/Ground+Chain+Length(?)+Ice. As for 連, Weblio says: shot of chain cable, bay, shackle of chain cable, string, length of chain cable, run, cable length.
Basically something long.

So I think we officially hit non-canon territory now lol~ Haku was the best!

軽く means more like “lightly” but it made more intuitive sense for it to mean numbing.

ビキ (biki) is SFX for fleshy innards moving (like muscles moving), IIRC.
I have no idea what this sounds like in English TBH.
Basically his cells are freezing, so maybe it should sound like ice cracking?

None, either because there really aren't any, or I accidentally deleted them... :(~

The enemy really does say あのうずまきナルト. “That Uzumaki Naruto”.

っけな or っけ is an expression at the end of a sentence when you’re trying to recall info.
Like it comes off as “What was that again?
I’m trying to remember xxx” I did my best to fit that nuance in as “vaguely recall”, though it could also be like “I guess that xxxxx”

手ごたえがなさすぎる is like “Response/reaction---not overly doing”.
Basically saying “You didn’t react at all/much/enough”.
As the enemy implies that since he’s Naruto (who struck down Madara), he expected more from him/him to not get fro-yo’ed.
Hence when the shadow clone died, he’s pointing out that it sorta seemed a bit too easy to kill Naruto just like that~

そりゃできねェ相談だってばよ is like “I can’t have that sort of discussion” or “We’re not even going to talk about something like that”.
It was too weird to leave literally.
So it became more like “That’s out of the question!” because Naruto is just saying that there’ no bargaining talk with him.

ものともしない is one whole expression. Meaning you’re purposely ignoring something.

I’m actually not very sure about that muddy eye thing. It’s just describing his appearance, so w/e… ;__;’;;~~
If it’s important later on as I read the novel, I’ll clarify it.

He means that because Sasuke is probably not going to hop on the train to try another Infinite Tsukuyomi, that idea is no longer a possibility because he needs him in order to activate it again.

Yeah, this section gets into some deep philosophy, and not gonna lie, I had to look up some of the words on good old Jisho and Weblio. I think I made sense of it overall into English though~

Take this time to read back up on the Wave Country on the Naruto Wikia, or think way back to the Zabuza arc, and the fact that they have to outsource to other villages like Konoha to protect themselves.

Shock refers to the medical emergency denotation.
In this case, most likely anaphylactic (a severe allergic) shock.
So his son probably had a fatal reaction that to the sting ;__;’;~~~

[T/N]

まじない I think is for treating illness through prayer.
That kind of charm/spell was worthless to no avail.

あっという間に is “In the time it takes to say “Aah!”.
Basically something happened fast, or in the blink of an eye.

It’s possible to freeze anything that’s moist, basically, with the jutsu.
So I think it’s more of like a manipulation of water.

other notes from the translator =>

//End Translation.

This coincides with pages 1-17 in the paper novel.
On the preview pages of the Naruto app, it was labeled as 2-20 (the amount of text per page is different on the online version. Same content).

The rest of the prologue is pages 21-35 from the digital excerpt (novel version ends on page 25 for the prologue), which I’m not exactly up for translating directly for now to finish up this section~~
I think I will move onto partial convo from Ch. 2, or other scenes as I read and want to share stuff from it.

I don’t know what I’ll translate next or when they will get posted.
I don’t get paid to translate any of this (plus, it takes up a large part of my spare time), so I think any future sections are purely on a whim of mine.

Though if you are interested in helping proofread or translation QC, get in touch with me to help out~~
I would appreciate it quite a bit.
I would probably be way more motivated if someone else was helping me out every now and then because it’s so dense.

Too much Naruto and Sai, not enough Kakashi.

Think I'll ask OD if she could tell me what happens on the last chapter and if Gai really uses his legs. These stories will take months before the last chapter is posted..even 'The Last' novel is still being translated.

i know but the problem is she's all alone to translate it and it takes a lot of time, if people would do this in tiny groups, it would be super faster...

Poor girl :( OD said people were bombarding her with messages saying that she's slow or wasn't a "real fan" if she doesn't take one for the team and translate what they want to know.

Someone mentioned that she's in medical school, and she does a page every once in a while in between studying. So she's stressed IRL as it is, don't make it worse for her by asking for more. If she wants to translate something she likes, let her do it on her own accord. What she wants to translate might not be you're interested in, but be thankful that someone is translating the novel line-by-line. We never got this level of info or dedication for any of the previous novels.

If you have reddit accounts, go leave a comment and tell her she's appreciated. Or if you're on NF, stop by the Kakashi Novel thread in the House of Uzumaki.

OD reported on her NF thread that she just did five more pages of the prologue. It looks like she is going to finish it!

The problem is that there is high demand, and a shortage of translators. And especially translators who have enough fluency (or I imagine advanced vocab) to even translate it. (OD said so herself, she needed to look up some words. On NF, I think she also double checked with a few people about a few lines.) And then among those high level translators...find one willing to dedicate time to the project. Which is slim to none.

OD looks chummy with Seelentau on NF. Maybe he's helping her. But honestly, she's on her own. No one on reddit (or any of the other known translators there) have stepped up to help. And TBH, you don't want rando tumblr people, who are probably going to google translate with their first semester high school Japanese level to get in her way. They'll slow her down probably.

I feel so sorry for OD, really. She does all the work and barely anyone is thanking her on NF and reddit (unless you're counting upvotes?) I saw someone complaining about it on tumblr, that she should just skip to the good parts and stop wasting her time. What ungrateful pricks.

At the end of the day, no one cares who's translating it, as long as they get the content. Which is sad. OD is taking shit for being generous.

Look at Eriko and OD's visitor message chat on NF. It looks like Eriko is doing The Last on her own now, and the Kakashi novel is OD's project. You can't expect her to help out, since Eriko is also juggling interview translations, databook, and The Last.

TakL has never done projects like this. Poor guy gets harrassed left and right for every little translation for years. He's done more than enough for the fandom already. I think he's been busy recently. He hasn't posted much. Either that, or it's OD translated the recent news first and he didn't need to correct it. I mean, doesn't it suck that their claim to fame for the Naruto fandom is that they all translate shit for us peasants? I can't even imagine what their inboxes look like right now. It's bad enough to tell people you vaguely understand Japanese. But hot damn, if you're one of the major ones and proven to be accurate like those three, life is probably a hell of people demanding shit.

I have zero expectations from OD. But if she delivers anything at her own pace, I will read the **** out of it. Because I know she has her shit on point and it's going to better than 99% of any other fan translations out there.

Plus, I heard she is going to be translating for the weekly Boruto series. So she'll have access to spoilers, which one means people are going to harass her until the ends of the earth. She got chapter 699 early, and people flipped on her.

Her work is very much appreciated by many here including myself.

It's a lot tougher than I thought, honestly with such high demand I'm surprised these guys arn't getting paid.

I honestly wouldn't mind chipping in for full novel translations.

people are selfish, mean and thankless especially on tumblr since they all have their agendas like ships and stuff like that.

translation is not just about being fluent, it takes a lot of time and energy really, i don't care if she's slow because nobody is helping her so it's not her fault, if you want a correct translation it's worse it.

i've already thanked her on NF and reddit, she's a really nice person ;)

I think it has to do with licensing and copyright laws. I think she said that's why she was wary about translating it in full, because she doesn't know if VIZ is going to buy out the English rights to the novel. Then it makes it pretty illegal for her to keep going right? From what I understand, it sounds like she can get sued by VIZ if they license it, like how Naruto scanlations are pretty illegal.

OD said while she was translating The Last that she would never take donations because it wouldn't make her a neutral translator if she got lobbyists from the pairing fandom. Plus, it would probably put too much pressure on her when who knows what else she's working on (because you know, being top ranked in medical school>>>>>>rando's on the internet thanking her)

people are selfish, mean and thankless especially on tumblr since they all have their agendas like ships and stuff like that.

I know a friend who went to the same undergraduate school as her (she went to an Ivy league-tier school in the top 15, also on a full ride...she is that beastly IRL). My friend said that she's like every Otaku's fantasy rolled into one, and honestly the only hate messages she gets are from onnline LOL. She has a set of killer abs BTW. My friend went on a beach retreat with her with a school club and I saw the pix. Tall, Asian, skinny, athletic, long hair. Confirmed hottie. 10/10. She just said on NF that she has a corgi, that that's bonus +100 LOL.

But anyway, yeah. OD mentioned that she's been learning Japanese since middle school on reddit somewhere, I think. And she said so herself on NF, she's no match for the pro's like takL or Yagami. It's just that everyone else is doing their own thing.

TBH, I think people are being mean to her, but don't realize it comes off as being entitled or rude. Like I'm hyped for the next part if she does it, but I'm not going to pout over it if it's not about Guy or Kakashi. Talk about shooting the messenger.
