Does anybody else think this theme was utterly raped by the Ootsutsuki Clan? Just look at the power difference between them and the Uchiha/Senju/Hyuuga/Uzumaki/Kaguya clans. Now it's "aliens reproducing with humans=weaker generation".

Any Ootsutsuki with their eyes could solo the Narutoverse, unless they had power from an Ootsutsuki.

Even their technology was better.

I think they're referring to the ninjas and not the aliens ones.

Naruto And Sasuke haven't surpassed nor will surpass kaguya.

Surpassing isn't always about physical capacities. But then new generation also has experience of the older generation to build upon. So it's like half glass full or half glass empty thing.

Naruto achieved where two previous Jiraiya student failed. Minato and Nagato both could be the one to fulfill the prophecy. Kaguya despite being most powerful of them was not really that smart a cookie....and so on..

Too bad something being said only twice as two characters' opinions don't necessarily qualify as a theme.

According to the databook Kaguya came up with the Uchiha manipulation plot. Black Zetsu just carried it out. It even calls her clever.

I'm pretty sure that had more to do with ideals, as opposed to pure power.

Yeah, if Kishi truly meant that the next generations will always surpass the previous ones in power, then he failed, miserably.

She certainly wasn't that battle smart. May be centuries spent in a seal had rusted her. She still got sealed because she discounted Sakura and Kakashi. She should have learned from Madara's experience- not to ignore seemingly weaker people around.

The new generation did manage to achieve peace, technological progress and all that. Sure, it's not perfect but I guess that's Kishi's message.

Re: The "Next Generation Always Surpassing The Previous Generation" Theme...

The Otusuki clan were a very ancient one, which was just beyond anyone in the first place.

Contains spoilers.

The Ootsutsuki clan aren't even human, their DNA, and ability to resist any kind of enemy and totally incinerate the whole world would of course make them dominant. 2 people of that clan were able to defeat the Ten-tails with a certain seal, that of course has to mean that their power is just far greater than that of humans. Of course you wouldn't expect normal humans, even highly trained ninja to even reach their level. You could clearly see how Toneri cut the moon in half

But in another note, the old generation surely was surpassed not only physically stronger, but even psychologically. Hashirama couldn't make Madara consider, while Naruto could. Jiraiya couldn't bring Orochimaru back, but Naruto could bring him back. The new generation is destined to beat the old one on their goals. And this happened in the end of the series. We can clearly see, the new one winning over the old one.

Re: The "Next Generation Always Surpassing The Previous Generation" Theme...

Kishi has been largely inconsistent with this theme, look at Hashirama and his Hokage successors (save for Naruto) much like the theme of overcoming destiny in part 1 which has largely been contradicted in part 2 with the child of prophecy and the Ashura reincarnation thing. Kishimoto is just an inconsistent and self-contradicting writer.

It's the readers fault...Maybe Kishimoto wasn't trying to convey the themes people took from his work...and that is why it seems like he broke said themes.

Or maybe he's a sell out and that he actually wanted to initially convey those themes but his editors and publishers pushed him to rewrite the story, artistic integrity marred by commercialization.

Well, it was a lie from the start...Kakashi<Kakuzu when he said it, even though he was from a newer generation.

Not sure if it's actually a theme. It wasn't mentioned that much. The actual theme for Naruto is accepting help from others to better yourself and taking strength from others. However, if "old surpassing the new" was a theme, then the thing that destroyed it was transmigration, meaning you're taking strength from the previous generation.

However, Naruto and Sasuke obviously surpassed Ashura and Indra. Therefore, it was maintained.

Re: The "Next Generation Always Surpassing The Previous Generation" Theme...

- Surpass doesn't necessarily mean power. Naruto surpassed Hagoromo in uniting the world. Both Naruto and Sasuke surpassed their clan's ancestors Indra and Ashura.

- Generation doesn't always surpass the previous. Sarada won't be stronger than Sasuke. Every Senju is a fodder compared to Hashirama. Ay didn't surpass 3rd Raikage.

So no, they didn't rape the logic. :)
