What is wrong with pairings?

Am I the only one who wishes that Sakura had fallen for Naruto?

I don't dislike Naruhina - I like it, works well (in my opinion). But I really can't stand a lot about Sakura's character and I kind of hoped she would, I dunno... "redeem" herself, by falling in love (romantically) with Naruto.
I suppose it would have been symbolic of her growing up, shedding off the fangirl and (like Kushina) coming to recognise the worth of the yellow-haired boy who has adored you since he was a kid.

Thinking of how she was in canon, when she lied to Naruto about her feelings, rejected the confession of another nin, reacted towards Sasuke etc...
Would Sakura have survived Sasuke marrying someone else? Would she have moved on? Been happy for him?
No. Well, she would have lived - but I think she'd end up like Tsunade.
No. She'd reject all other confessions and remain steadfast to her true love.
No. She's inherently selfish, always placing what she wants/needs from Sasuke before what he wants/needs.

She's a miserable character when it comes to romance - it's all or nothing, like a stubborn child who is determined to have "that one".

Gah! I can't - even looking back over the manga - see any signs of love, regard or feelings of more than possible team mates/friends from Sasuke.

Why did he fall for her?

So frustrating. Still, this steaming pile of sh*t Kishi calls romance has nothing on FFVII's Aerith/Cloud/Tifa love triangle... almost makes me glad he made the pairings canon, because that sh*t has been argued (to death) since 1997.
But still... they wrote romance well in the FF franchise.

I agree with you somewhat. But where would that leave Hinata? If Sakura ended up with Naruto? Also you are very much right on the money here, about Sasuke's feelings towards Sakura. I think the issue with SasuSaku is more with Sasuke than Sakura herself. He is the one who needs to return his feelings towards Sakura, not the other way around. Some people think that the poke to the forehead is enough to justify he has changed. Or that "sorry" he said to Sakura before that. In my opinion it would have been nice to have these two in the movie being shown to justify there relationship. Like you know having both Naruto and Sasuke find there love for there beloved women, In a more contrast way. This movie should have been SasuSaku and NaruHina, Not just NaruHina. That to me would have justified both pairings much better. Than having Sakura end up with Naruto to redeem her character.

I know I am probably going to get bombarded with rage at this question, but I have been curious about this for years now:

Why do so many people hate pairings? It is not like they even affect the story too much. Sure we got a NaruHina moment or NaruSaku moment from time to time. They were not constant occurrences however that happened chapter after chapter. Even when they did happen, they were generally either brief (except for chapter 615) or actually important to the story (ie. Hinata getting stabbed by Pain causing Naruto to go into a rage). At the end of the day however, the pairings didn't really have an effect on the fights or the plot too much. Who sealed Kaguya? Naruto and Sasuke did (Not Naruto and Hinata or Sasuke and Sakura, etc...). Who casted the infinite tsukuyomi? Madara Uchiha did (not Madara and Mito as apart of their secret affair behind Hashirama's back). Who defeated Obito? Naruto and Sasuke with a senjutsu susanoo covered Kurama. What was the main cause of the conflict in the series? The cause was Black Zetsu's manipulation of Indra and Ashura's descendants along with conflict in Hagoromo's family and lineage about how to bring peace to the world (and also a crazy lady obsessed with chakara). It had nothing to do with pairings. The list goes on and on.

The closest thing to a pairing that had a huge effect on the story was Obito's love for Rin. Even that wasn't really a pairing because Rin has been dead the whole series and she liked Kakashi anyway.

Since pairings have so little effect on the story, I don't see why they get so much hate. Hating pairings is like hating Shino. He is so irrelevant that there is absolutely no reason to hate him or bear much emotion to him at all.

I think there maybe a far subtler reason for the final pairings in chapter 700 than many of you may realize. For the fourth straight year Japan's death rate has exceeded the birthrate. Currently Japan is in the midst of a serious population decline.

Since Naruto is a shounen manga having the principle "younger generation"characters show grown up and married with children at the end is a way of saying this is how things should be in the future. The fact that so many of the previous generations (Kakashi, Gai, Izuna, Tsunade etal) are single is a reflection of the sad reality that is a part of Japanese life today.
For those of you who scoff at this, well Japan is a country that for the last several years has been putting out pamphlets aimed at high school girls on how to please their boyfriends during ***. *** makes babies, babies increase the population.

Why target school girls? The same article above included this paragraph, and I quote:
"Japanese laws and social customs make it extremely difficult for women to have a career and a family. Women who get pregnant, or even just marry, are generally expected to quit work and become a housewife."
In a culture as traditional as Japan many young women today are trading starting a family for the freedom of an independent career since they aren't able to easily juggle both options.
Some of you disparaged the image of Sakura cleaning her house....reread the quote.
So while you may feel that the pairings were off, or rushed and just tacked on haphazardly, remember that Shounen is aimed at young boys and the "Happily Ever After" family image is probably a little psychological prod in the direction of future propagation, a bit of reproductive propaganda if you will. After all even the author Kishimoto has on more than one occasion in interviews mentioned the positive influence of his wife and child.

I don't understand the complaints either most of them makes sense to me. Naruto and Hinata, she told him she loved him and you saw the whole series she wanted to be with him. Sasuke and Sakura , she told Naruto when he was transformed into Sasuke that all she wanted was be with him. Shikamiru and Temariu moments was showed through out the series and the girl during the war stated she had feelings for Shikamiru. Lee and Ten-Ten together from them spending so much time together. Sai and Ino together makes sense from his first impression nick naming her pretty.
